The Anamnesis quest takes you deep into the heart of the Sedletz Monastery, where a mysterious illness is spreading among the monks. As Henry, you’re tasked with uncovering the truth behind this so-called plague, whether it’s divine punishment, a medical mystery, or something more human. You’ll question monks, uncover secrets, and piece together clues hidden within the monastery’s walls. Every choice matters, from how you handle confessions to whether you expose the monks’ hidden sins or protect their secrets.

    Anamnesis Quest Guide in KCD2

When you arrive at the Sedletz Monastery, you’ll quickly learn that a strange plague has broken out among the monks. Follow Albich, who will lead you toward the infirmary while explaining the situation along the way.

    Meeting the Royal Physician

Inside the infirmary, you’ll inspect the sick monks and can pass a hard Scholarship check to help with identifying their symptoms. Not long after, Zacharias of Prachatitz, the royal physician serving King Sigismund, interrupts your investigation. He’s calm and confident, insisting that this isn’t a true plague, just an illness that’s been exaggerated by the frightened abbot. He introduces his assistant, Denes, before moving on.

The three patients all share the same symptoms: fever, rash, and severe bloody diarrhoea. Albich tasks you with figuring out what could have caused the sickness, essentially, to find the source of the miasma that’s spreading through the monastery.

    Talking to the Confessor

The confessor, Stephen, is the only patient well enough to speak. You’ll find him resting in the infirmary. Talk to him and try to pass a very hard Scholarship check to show that you understand the nature of the illness. Stephen wants to help, but he can’t reveal anything that was told to him in confession.

If you succeed at a medium Coercion or very hard Speech check, he’ll give you a small lead telling you to check his cell, where he’s left a key that might be useful. When you visit his quarters, you’ll also find some jewellery and flowers, which makes Henry suspicious that something more personal might be involved.

Looking into Blazhena and the Missing Food

Next, talk to Zdenyek, who works outside in the monastery’s work area. Ask him about Blazhena, one of the women who’s fallen ill. He claims she’s been stealing food from the pantry and points you to her room upstairs, across from the church, near a window. Her roommate, Valerie, is nearby and worth talking to.

When you question Valerie, she gets offended that Zdenyek would accuse Blazhena. She actually saw him taking something from Blazhena’s chest and then heading down to the cellar. Valerie also mentions that Blazhena had been speaking with a monk recently. If you decide to check Blazhena’s room, you’ll find 300 groschen inside her chest. Following Valerie’s lead to the cellar, you’ll discover tubs filled with watered-down wine, Zdenyek’s little side business.

    Exposing Zdenyek’s Secret

Confront Zdenyek about what you found. He’ll want to talk in private, though you can force the issue publicly with a Coercion check. Eventually, he admits he’s been diluting the monastery’s wine to skim profits. When Blazhena caught him, he stole a key from her chest that opens the monastery cellar. You can choose whether to report him to the abbot or keep quiet. If you let him off the hook, he’ll stay around as a useful contact you can even buy lockpicks from him later.

    Researching Jaroslav’s Work

Now turn your attention to Jaroslav, another monk who has fallen ill. Speak with the librarian in the library, who tells you that Jaroslav had been busy translating The Decameron. He wasn’t doing much else, with most of his regular duties passed to others. The librarian suggests you talk to Brother Celestine, who knew him best. Check the book Jaroslav was working on; you’ll notice there’s barely any progress. In Jaroslav’s cell, search his medium-locked chest to find Old Cellar Plans, which look like a map.

    Following Celestine’s Clues

Celestine is usually found praying. When you ask about Jaroslav, he confirms the librarian’s story but adds a new twist: Jaroslav had been sneaking out at night into the cellars and might have been meeting a woman there. Head down to the monastery cellars and look for a wine stain on the floor, which leads to a locked door. You can use the key you got from Zdenyek to open it. Inside, you’ll meet Brother Vojtiech, who explains everything.

    The Secret Scriptorium

Vojtiech reveals that he, Jaroslav, and Blazhena had been secretly writing a new book together. Jaroslav feared that The Decameron would be destroyed for being too scandalous, so they started creating their own work inspired by it. Another monk, Brother Ernest, was also involved.

Vojtiech assures you the damp cellar isn’t the source of the illness. When you go to check on Ernest, you’ll find him dead in his cell, with building plans on his desk. Examining his body reveals he died of the same sickness, likely the first to fall ill.

    Reporting to Albich

With all your clues in hand, return to Albich in the infirmary to share your findings. When you later speak to the abbot, you can attempt a hard Speech check to keep the secret scriptorium hidden. Once the discussion ends, the abbot orders the monastery quarantined, officially wrapping up the quest.
