The Palaeoctopus is one of the new creatures introduced in the ARK Survival Ascended DLC. It has a unique taming method, unlike most other creatures in the game. Once tamed, it becomes a powerful companion that can fight, climb, camouflage, and move quickly in both land and underwater. In this guide, we will show you how to tame a Palaeoctopus in ARK Survival Ascended.
How To Tame A Palaeoctopus

The easiest method to lure or find the Palaeoctopus is to go near the beach area in Ocean Biome – Genesis 1. Palaeoctopus in the ocean usually swim away, but the ones on the beach will grab you once you get close. The spawn command for it is “Palaeoctopus_Character_BP_C” 150. Instead of trying to escape, stay in its grasp and wait for the right moment to feed it. Bring plenty of Biotoxin, as it increases its Torpor much faster.
How to Get Narcotics
Spoiled Meat is the first thing that you will require for making Narcotic. For this, all you need is to take some fresh meat and spoil it in your backpack. For the quick spoiling process, you need to ensure that you divide the meat into individual pieces and do not keep it in a big pile. This is because each separate piece will have its own time to spoil, thus providing you with a Spoiled Meat much quicker.

The next thing that you will require for making Narcotic is Narcoberries. These can be harvested from bush plants manually or with the help of some creatures. One such creature is called Moschops, which has great abilities for gathering plenty of berries.
Finally, once you have collected both ingredients, put them inside a Mortar and Pestle. Go to the crafting tab and Drugs section under the Consumable subsection. There, choose Narcotic and craft it in whatever amount you require.
How to Get Bio-Toxins

You will need to hunt the Cnidaria to gather the Biotoxin. This monster is easily distinguishable due to its glow, which is visible underwater. Rather than looking for a specific location, all you need to do is search the ocean and look out for blue glowing objects.
When you spot the monster, swim near it to attract it towards you. The jellyfish will follow you, and by doing so, you will be able to bring the monster close to the beach. It is the safest way since fighting the jellyfish underwater may be dangerous.
Finally, attack the monster with your ranged weapon such as a crossbow or any weapon that you want. If the monster comes closer to the beach, then you can attack it directly. It prevents the electric attacks of the jellyfish. After defeating the jellyfish, harvest its body to collect Biotoxin.
How to Get Prime Meat

Prime Meat is an important resource when it comes to taming creatures at the beginning of the game. Although you may be able to obtain it by killing larger dinosaurs, it is not always wise to fight them when you are just starting the game.
Keep an eye out for small animals that follow the large dinosaurs. You will see that most of the large dinosaurs have one or two smaller dinosaurs with them. If you can kill one of the smaller dinosaurs without alerting the larger dinosaur, there is a high chance of obtaining Prime Meat from it. This lets you collect Prime Meat without having to take on a much stronger enemy.
Taming the Palaeoctopus

The octopus will keep squeezing and biting you, so wait until the screen starts shaking, then press the interact button to feed it. If you feed it while it is trying to bite you, you will take unnecessary damage.

Each successful feeding increases the octopus’s Torpor. Keep repeating the process, as it can take several rounds before it finally becomes unconscious. The octopus will slowly drain your health while holding you. So, bring a lot of Medical Brews or other healing items. After the Octopus becomes unconscious, place your preferred taming food into its inventory.
Taming in Land
If you’re taming a Palaeoctopus on land, you don’t need as many supplies. You only require Biotoxins/Narcotics to increase the Torpor level of the creature when it is holding you, and also some Prime Meat to feed it after it has been knocked out. Land taming is easier than water taming since you do not have to think about breathing or survival in water.
Taming in Sea

In case you want to tame the Palaeoctopus in water, be sure that you are properly equipped for the process. Equip yourself with Biotoxin/Narcotics around 10-20 to increase its Torpor value, and around 50 pieces of Prime Meat for the taming. In addition, you need to eat Lazarus Chowder before your dive to gain continuous health regeneration in water. Lastly, have two Scuba Tanks with you just in case you will run out of oxygen during taming.
Palaeoctopus Abilities
After taming it and equipping a saddle, you will be able to use the Palaeoctopus:
- Throw: Launch enemies away by charging the throw.
- Grab: Hold smaller creatures in its tentacles.
- Climb: Stick to surfaces and climb out of the water.
- Suffocate: Squeeze grabbed enemies to deal continuous damage.
- Slam: Smash grabbed targets into the ground.
- Pressure Pulse: Releases an underwater pulse that can help during combat.
- Camouflage: Blend into the environment to hide from enemies.
- Fast Swim: Hold the swim boost to move much faster underwater.
One of the advantages of Palaeoctopus is that it is a good creature for exploration and combat, as it can move both on land and water without taking any damage. Since this is a new creature added in the DLC, the taming food of the Palaeoctopus is still not found in the game.
The Palaeoctopus can also be bred. You can breed it when both the male and female are in the water. After breeding, they will produce a very large egg which contains a baby Palaeoctopus. It will eat meat while growing into an adult form.
