This segment of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will see you traveling through Zora Domain and Zora Fountain to locate Princess Ruto before entering Lord Jabu-Jabu. In this quest, you will acquire a Piece of Heart, obtain a Silver Scale, retrieve Ruto’s Letter, and find a Gold Skulltula. This walkthrough covers everything you need to do in the area, including important items and collectibles.
Zora Domain & Zora Fountain 100% Walkthrough
Zora Domain is an extensive, cold area in the game “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.” This area contains the habitats of the Zora species, which are a race of fish-like creatures living in water. This is where you will find King Zora and find out more about the missing Princess Ruto.
Heart Piece #1
There are eight unlit torches distributed around Zora Domain. If you light all of these torches, then you will receive a Piece of Heart. The first step is to light a Deku Stick through the torch that can be found close to the throne of King Zora.
Take this flame further and light the torches on the way until you reach the area below. There are two torches located behind the waterfall; you should also light them. As a result, a chest will be unlocked behind the waterfall and contain a Piece of Heart.
Talk To King Zora
Once you have done everything in regards to the torches, go up and talk to King Zora De Bon the XVI. At first, he thinks you are just a messenger from the Royal Family. But then, he tells you that his daughter, Princess Ruto, has disappeared. The Zora have already looked everywhere in their territory, even down at Lake Hylia, but still they haven’t been able to find her yet.
It is the king’s assumption that she could be somewhere underwater. In order to help him find his daughter, you must locate her Letter, which can be found at Lake Hylia. But before that, you must first acquire the Silver Scale.
Get The Silver Scale
Find the Zora on the upper floor of Zora Domain who stands next to a pool on the left-hand side of King Zora’s throne room.
Speak to him and ask for a lesson on how to dive. He will throw 5 Scales into the pool underneath. Dive into the pool and get all 5 scales within 40 seconds.
After you have collected the 5 Scales, the Zora will give you the Silver Scale. With this object, you can dive deep into the water. You can then find your way through a tunnel to Lake Hylia.
Find Ruto’s Message In a Bottle
Since you have acquired the Silver Scale, go to the lower level of Zora Domain and plunge yourself in the deep pool.
Dive under the water and search for the tunnel that leads to Lake Hylia. With your enhanced diving ability, you will now be able to access the tunnel. Swim in the tunnel to get to Lake Hylia.
Lake Hylia is the lake surrounded by an island, bridges, and the Lakeside Laboratory. Diving to the bottom of the lake after coming out of the underwater tunnel, you will see a Bottle floating there. Navi will remind you that there is something in it. Take it and it will turn out to be the Ruto’s Letter.
After getting the letter, swim back to Zora Domain via the underwater tunnel. The Bottle will still remain with you after submitting the letter.
Show The Message To King Zora
Go back to King Zora and give him the Letter you found at Lake Hylia. He recognizes the handwriting and finds out from the letter that Princess Ruto is inside Lord Jabu-Jabu. King Zora is shocked to know that their god may have swallowed her. King Zora tells you that Jabu-Jabu has been behaving weirdly since the Zora chased some Gerudo yelling about Ganondorf away. Navi starts suspecting that Ganondorf might have something to do with all of this.
King Zora asks you to save Ruto and not tell anyone about it. He moves aside, and now there is a way to reach Zora Fountain. After giving the letter to the king, the Bottle you used to get the letter becomes an Empty Bottle.
Catch a Fish in a Bottle
Before departing from Zora’s Domain, go back downstairs where the waterfall is located. Use the Empty Bottle and catch one fish from the pool of water near the waterfall. This fish will be essential to get into the next dungeon, so be sure that you have caught one.
Gold Skulltula #1
As you reach the Zora Fountain, go to the back right part of the area. There you will see a tree located. Roll into the tree so that a Gold Skulltula drops out of it. Kill the Gold Skulltula and get the Token. There is another Gold Skulltula located on the nearby wall which only appears during night time, but you require a Boomerang to get it.
Farore’s Wind Magic Fairy
Behind the Gold Skulltula tree is a broken wall that you can smash using a Bomb. Smash the wall and go inside the secret room, where you will find the second Great Fairy. Talk to the Great Fairy and give her 100 Rupees to get Farore’s Wind Magic.
Enter Jabu Jabu
Once you have handed the letter to Ruto and got your fish, go back to the entrance of Zora Fountain. There you will see Lord Jabu-Jabu, a big fish, swimming around in the water. Navi observes that he is suffering and believes that Ganondorf is behind all of this.
Just stand in front of him in the round basin and use your Fish in your Bottle. Lord Jabu-Jabu will eat up the fish along with Link. This gets you into Lord Jabu-Jabu, which starts the new dungeon.
