Wayward Son Quest Guide in Tainted Grail

Wayward Son is a quest in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon that puts you in the middle of a personal and political conflict. Self asks you to find Vin, an agent who is gone undercover as the adopted son of a powerful man named Denholm. The plan was to help the Children of Morrigan gain influence, but Vin has stopped reporting back. When you find him, the story takes a surprising turn. Vin might actually be Denholm’s real son. What you choose to tell him will decide how the story ends. This guide will help you through the quest, step by step, and explain both outcomes.

    Wayward Son Quest

Self will ask you to track down Vin, an agent who’s gone undercover by posing as Legate Denholm’s adopted son. The plan was for Vin to eventually be named Denholm’s heir, giving the Children of Morrigan a way into Kamelotian politics.

But Vin has stopped checking in, and Self wants you to find out what happened. To find Denholm, you need to go to the Kamelotian camp. Head to Cuanacht and cross the bridge to get there. You will find Vin there. When you talk to him, he will reveal something troubling; he thinks he might actually be Denholm’s real son. That’s a big problem, since he swore he’d kill the man who abandoned him and his mother.

    Speak with Denholm

Next, you will need to talk to Denholm directly. He will admit that he hasn’t visited the graves of his wife and son. The area is overrun with undead, and he has been too busy with his duties to go himself. Offer to take care of it for him, and he will hand you the key to his family’s crypt. Head north to the abandoned village and make your way into the graveyard.

Now use the key to unlock his family’s crypt. Go inside. Also, there is an optional boss named Tibby who might show up in the graveyard clearing. Once you have cleared out the undead, read the tombstones. Here, you will find Denholm’s wife’s grave. But there’s no grave for Denholm’s son. This suggests that his child is Vin. Here’s what happens depending on whether you tell Vin the truth about his father or decide to lie to complete the mission:

If You Tell Vin the Truth

If you haven’t done any extra digging, your only option is to tell Vin the truth. He’ll thank you for confirming what he suspected, and then go straight to Denholm and attack him. Denholm ends up killing Vin, and you will have to go back to Self with the bad news.

    If You Lie to Vin

You can avoid this outcome by lying. Now, check the coffin behind his mother’s. Read the inscription, it reveals that a whole family, including a child, is buried there. Once you have read it, the child’s skeleton will appear. Take it with you and use it to convince Vin that he’s not Denholm’s son. He will believe you, apologise, and complete his mission as planned.

No matter which path you choose, head back to Self in Morrigan’s Hollow. She’ll respond differently based on what happened, but either way, the quest will be complete.
