Unlock layered armor in Monster Hunter Wild

In Monster Hunter Wilds, Layered Armor lets you change the appearance of your armor without affecting its stats or skills. It’s purely cosmetic it doesn’t provide any bonuses but it hides your real armor, making it look like you’re only wearing the Layered Armor.

To unlock this feature early in the Main Story, you’ll need the pre-order bonuses, which include some Layered armor pieces. For everyone else or if you want full access to the system you’ll have to finish the story and unlock High-Rank missions. Once you can craft High-Rank equipment, the corresponding Layered armor pieces will become available for your Hunter. Keep in mind, you can only use High-Rank gear as Layered Armor. You won’t have full access to Layered Armor until you reach High Rank. After defeating the Yian Kut-Ku in the Scarlet Forest, talk to Gemma she’ll explain how the whole system works.

Once you craft a High-Rank piece of armor, you can use it as Layered Armor in Monster Hunter Wilds. Here’s how to equip it:

  1. Head to any tent and open the Appearance Menu.
  2. Select Equipment Appearance.
  3. You’ll see an overview of your armor. Choose which part you want to customize — head, chest, arms, waist, or legs.
  4. A list of your unlocked Layered Armor will pop up. Use the D-pad to scroll through and highlight the piece you want to wear.
  5. Once you’ve found the armor you want, press X to equip it.

Once you reach High Rank in Monster Hunter Wilds, you can get any armor you want as Layered Armor. When you craft a High-Rank piece, it automatically unlocks the Layered version of that armor. Essentially, crafting High-Rank armor also gives you a transmog option for it!
