How to Avoid Jin Dahaad One Shot Attack in Monster Hunter Wilds

Surviving Jin Dahaad’s deadly one-shot attack is one of the biggest challenges in Monster Hunter Wilds. This massive leviathan has powerful area-of-effect attacks, but none are as devastating as its explosive spiral charge. If you’re caught in the blast, it’s almost always an instant knockout. Understanding how to circumvent this attack is vital for surviving the fight and winning the battle. This guide will illustrate the optimal means of evading Jin Dahaad’s one-hit attack, including how to make use of floating ice blocks to take cover behind, the optimum positioning during combat, and surviving by coordinating with your allies.

How to Defeat Jin Dahaad

Jin Dahaad is a huge leviathan, perhaps the biggest monster in Monster Hunter Wilds. This quadruped ice-breathing behemoth is famous for its very damaging area-of-effect (AoE) attacks, and thus it’s a pretty tough foe to beat. Throughout the fight, it releases an especially deadly one-shot attack, which is a significant threat towards the end of the encounter.

Since Jin Dahaad is a set-piece monster, you’ll always face it in the same few arenas. This provides you with an opportunity to analyze the terrain and turn it around for yourself. Understanding how to traverse the landscape and employ its characteristics can mean the difference between surviving this gruesome fight or dying in the arena.

When battling Jin Dahaad, the key is to avoid its head. While it may be a weak spot, the risk isn’t worth it, its powerful AoE breath attacks and crushing belly flops make staying near its front incredibly dangerous. Instead, focus on attacking its hind legs, which are also a weak point but offer a much safer position.

Be cautious of Jin Dahaad’s ice breath, as it can inflict iceblight, causing your stamina to drain faster. To counter this, always carry Nulberries to quickly remove the effect if you get hit. Additionally, since the fight takes place in a cold environment, don’t forget to drink a Hot Drink to keep your stamina up and stay battle-ready.

Jin Dahaad Attacks

Jin Dahaad has several powerful attacks to be aware of, especially in the later phases of the fight. In one of the final arenas, it will climb a central structure on the ceiling and unleash ice breath from above, making it difficult to dodge.

The best way to avoid this is by riding your Seikret to stay mobile. After three breath attacks, you can use your Hook Slinger to pull down the structure Jin Dahaad is wrapped around, causing massive damage when it falls.

Beyond that, its breath attacks are especially dangerous. The worst ones happen when it breathes straight down in front of its face, triggering a huge AoE explosion, or when it exhales directly ahead while you’re at a distance.

To stay safe, it’s best to stick close to its hind legs. Another major threat is its freezing AoE, which isn’t a breath attack but a frost wave emitted from its body that can immobilize you. If you see this starting to build up, immediately hop on your Seikret and get out of range.

How to Avoid Jin Dahaad One Shot Attack

One of the deadliest points of the Jin Dahaad battle is when it rolls up into a spiral and readies a colossal AoE blast. If the attack hits, it’s frequently an immediate KO, so knowing how to avoid it is key. The sole means of survival is by staying behind a hovering ice block, which you can drag down with your Hook Slinger.

Every arena contains a few of these ice blocks, and they’re not used for defense only. If properly timed, you can drop them onto Jin Dahaad directly, and it does additional damage, interrupting its attack for a brief moment. They are, therefore, worth having for survival and offense purposes.

It’s a good idea to pull down an ice block ahead of time to create a safe zone before the attack begins. However, this comes with a drawback, it might make it harder to see when Jin Dahaad is actually charging its explosion. This can be risky, as you’ll need to react quickly when the moment comes.

Communication with teammates is the other probable problem. If they do not see you pull down the ice block beforehand, they might not know where to hide. Coordination is crucial, so ensure everyone knows the safe place before the attack starts.

Tips

  • Use a fire weapon with either bludgeoning or slashing damage for maximum effectiveness.
  • Aim for the head, neck, or legs, but since the head is a risky spot, it’s safer to attack the hindlegs and tail.
  • If you manage to knock Jin Dahaad down, you can perform a free Focus Strike on its head or the ridges above its hindlegs.
  • Despite its massive size, Jin Dahaad’s tail can be severed, providing an extra advantage in the fight.
  • When Jin Dahaad climbs onto the overhead structure and starts spewing ice, wait for it to attack three times, then pull the pillar down with your Hook Slinger for big damage.
  • You can drop floating ice blocks on Jin Dahaad to deal extra damage, but be cautious, these blocks are also your only cover against its deadly one-shot attack.
