How to Find the Five Sacred Wounds Puzzle

After deciphering the strange symbols with Father Antonio, Indy learns he must go to the Tower of Pope Nicholas V in Vatican City. Father Antonio will also hand over a wine bottle that you will need to complete the puzzle. Head east from the library toward the Vatican Post Office, where you picked up the camera. Your destination is the Tower of Nicholas the Fifth, the round building just across the street.

Watch out for the captain patrolling near the main entrance, he can see through your disguise, so you’ll need to be cautious while getting inside. Once inside, pour wine into the basin in front of the altar. Then, turn the bas-relief to the left. This will reveal a hidden staircase leading underground.

How to Solve the Five Sacred Wounds Puzzle

Okay, so you’ve reached a spooky, old staircase. Before you venture into the darkness, grab a candle from the nearby altar to light your way. If you climb the stairs, you can find a special helmet, part of a lost European treasure. Once you have it, head back down the stairs, lighting the torches and braziers as you go.

When you get to the puzzle, take a picture of it. Then, pour some wine into the basin. This will make five levers appear, representing the wounds Jesus suffered: his hands, side, and feet. On either side of the puzzle, you’ll find five more pictures and basins. These will give you the numbers you need to set the levers correctly.

  • To the left of the Sacred Wounds puzzle, there’s a mural with a statue on top. Move the statue and take a picture of the mural. The halo is around Jesus’ left hand. Pour wine into the basin to get the number 2. (Christ with a chalice: II)
  • Go through the gate and take a picture of the next mural and pour wine to get another 2. (Christ with bread: II)
  • Go through the door with the lit torch and break down the fragile wall with a candlestick. Take a picture of the mural and pour wine to get the number 3. (Standing Christ (left foot): III)
  • Go back to the main room and take a picture of the mural to the right of the Sacred Wounds puzzle and pour wine to get another 3. (Longinus statue: III)
  • Go through the crack in the wall and take a picture of the mural and pour wine to get the number 4. (Sitting Christ (right foot): IV)

To solve the puzzle, you must match the Roman numerals on the basins to the correct body parts on the central wall. Here’s how:

  • Top Left: II (hands)
  • Top Right: II (hands)
  • Middle: III (torso)
  • Bottom Left: III (feet)
  • Bottom Right: IV (feet)

The wall will move once you’ve correctly aligned the latches, revealing a secret passage and will give your next objective to find the Warrior’s Giant Tomb.
