Expedition 33 – Best Monoco Build

Wondering what the best build is for Monoco in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? Read this guide to get all the info about Monoco’s most optimal build which will utilize his Break potential and damage output. Read along to find out the most optimal weapons, stats, skills, and Luminas that can turn Monoco into a battlefield powerhouse who always breaks the enemies and enhances the effectiveness of the team.

Best Weapons for Monoco

For Monoco there are two standout weapons that help in amplifying his Break potential-Joyaro (Lightning-elemental) and Urnaro (Earth-elemental). Each of these weapons caters to a different playstyle:

  • Joyaro is ideal if you wish to Break enemies super quickly.
  • Urnaro on the other hand is better suited for those who prefer the post-Break advantages and want team support.

Stat Recommendations for Urnaro Builds

To get the most out of Urnaro, you can try focusing on boosting the Agility and Defense first; this will make Monoco extremely tanky. Once those stats hit the 99 cap, you will have two solid options:

  • Vitality: Increases survivability even more.
  • Luck: Raises Crit Rate, great for offense-oriented strategies.

You can pick whichever fits your approach best in the game.

Weapon Traits at Level 20+

Joyaro

  • Monoco is someone who always starts battles in the Almighty Mask mode.
  • He gains +20% damage per turn and avoids getting hit, easily stacking up to +100%.
  • While in the Almighty Mask, Break Damage is also doubled.

Urnaro

  • Breaking an enemy triggers an instant switch to the Almighty Mask.
  • Every time Monoco enters the Almighty Mask mode, the entire team gains +2 AP.
  • Monoco’s Break Damage is increased by 50% at all times.

Best Skills for Monoco

Start Strong with Almighty Mask

  • Equip Joyaro to utilize the Almighty Mask, which is triggered at the beginning of every battle.
  • Monoco’s initial Skill will automatically inflict double Break Damage with this Mask.

Tip: Start with your strongest Skill to deal the most damage.

Utilize Double Turns with Cheater Lumina

  • All characters, including Monoco, will have double turns by the end of the game, courtesy of the Cheater Lumina.
  • Use Monoco’s first turn to accumulate enough AP.
  • Then, strike hard with Creation Void (a strong Skill in Lumiere Gardens or Renoir’s Drafts).

Creation Void and Caster Mask

  • Damage Boost: Creation Void gets a damage boost when wearing the Caster Mask.

Note:  It will not get the Break Damage bonus from Joyaro if Monoco is not in the Almighty Mask.

Dealing Damage While Waiting for Almighty Mask Recharge

While waiting for recharge of the Almighty Mask, do the following:

  • Damage Dealing: Remove Defenseless and Mark with skills Grosse Tete Whack and Chapelier Slash.
  • Break Meter Filling: Skills Moissonneuse Vendange and Duallist Storm (available at Endless Tower) are perfect when enemies are full and have to be Broken.

Monoco’s Sixth Slot: Healing

  • Pelerin Heal: Always a great sixth slot pick by having more healing when required.

Best Luminas for Monoco

Monoco has to be assembled optimally to sustain him to deal heavy damage and shattering enemies while his other characters do the supporting work to make sure they use the gaps he creates. With these abilities, it’s best to do it:

Essential Abilities:

  • Cheater
  • Painted Power
  • Dead Energy
  • Sweet Kill

Along with these essentials, have your highest priority on any abilities listed under “Break”.

Breaking Luminas

  • Breaker
  • Critical Break
  • Breaking Counter
  • Breaking Shots

These are the only Luminas that spend the least Lumina Points while greatly increasing the Break Damage Monoco’s attacks deal.

Break Specialist is also highly advisable. It reduces his base damage slightly, but increases Break Damage, having only a 1 LP cost makes it the best choice.

Caution: Even though Breaking Burn and Fueling Break aren’t mandatory, they do compliment some builds rather effectively, more so when Monoco is allied with

Damage Luminas

Since Monoco’s damage break is a literal Break Damage, adding or boosting more of it will increase his total damage. The below Luminas are extremely cheap so you can consider getting your hands on them:

  • Augmented Counter
  • Augmented First Strike

Overhead these with Breaking Luminas boosts Monoco’s output as well, especially Augmented First Strike when topped with big multipliers like Creation Void.

AP Luminas

To maintain Monoco’s AP, the following are key:

  • Combo Attack
  • Cheater

Additionally, consider adding extra AP gain with:

1. Energising Turn

2. Time Tint

3. Energising Stun (particularly useful as Monoco is likely to stun enemies consistently).

This build makes Monoco stand out as the primary DPS and Breaker in the squad while setting up the framework for ease in sustaining high-damage output with Break-skilled spells.
