In Dune: Awakening, Ornithopters are flying vehicles that allow players to explore the vast and dangerous deserts of Arrakis with speed and agility. Their unique wing-flapping mechanism, combined with booster propulsion, makes them perfect for dodging sandworms, navigating storms, and transporting cargo or troops. This guide breaks down exactly how to obtain and craft Ornithopters.

    Ornithopter In Dune Awakening

Ornithopters, often called thopters are one of the most iconic flying vehicles in the Dune universe, and you will definitely get to use them in Dune: Awakening. They have a sleek, lightweight body with large folding wings that flap up and down like a bird or dragonfly, rather than spinning like a helicopter. These wings generate lift, and the thopters also have rocket boosters that give them quick bursts of speed, perfect for dodging storms or gaining altitude fast.

Thopters are super versatile. You can use them for getting around, exploring, combat, and even hauling cargo. The larger models are known as carryalls and can carry heavy loads, including smaller harvesters.

These flying machines are crucial for exploring the world safely. Because you can fly at high altitudes, you’ll be able to avoid sandworms and travel across dangerous areas much more easily. There’s also a feature called “Vulture” that let your thopter dive quickly when needed.

    How To Get The Ornithopter

To get the Ornithopter, you need to build it. If you want to build your ornithopter, your first step is  to set up your base near the Eastern Shield Wall or at Jabal Eifrit Al-Ghrab. This area is rich in the resources you’ll need, making it the perfect location to begin your journey.

    Collect Water

Once your base is up and running, your next big task is collecting a large amount of water, around 70,000 liters. You’ll need this both for crafting the facilities and the ornithopter itself. The most efficient way to do this is by extracting water from enemies using Blood Purifiers.

To speed things up, it’s a good idea to craft a Blood Extractor Mk2 and use Medium Blood Sacks. Focus on attacking enemy camps and outposts to collect blood quickly. As soon as you’ve gathered enough, head back to your base right away to start purifying, it takes time.

If you want a more passive or alternative source of water, you can also set up Windtraps or Dew Reapers. Windtraps collect water slowly but consistently, though they need more materials to build. Dew Reapers, on the other hand, can gather a decent amount of water during certain optimal weather windows.

    Collect Cobalt Paste

After you’ve got water sorted out, it’s time to collect 134 Cobalt Pastes and 88 Complex Machineries. These are essential for crafting the Medium Ore Refinery and the Vehicle Fabricator, both of which are required to process materials and build ornithopter parts.

You can mine Cobalt Paste by harvesting the glowing pink Etyrite Ores at the Hagga Rift. For Complex Machinery, head to enemy or mining outposts in the Vermillius Gap and loot the machinery there. Also, make sure to gather 160 Steel Ingots, which are needed to craft both of those machines.

    Refine Aluminum

With your refinery built, you will need to refine around 241 Aluminum Ingots, a mandatory step that can take a while. A great spot to collect Aluminum Ore is near the Wreck of Alecto, located in the Western Shield Wall.

    Diamondine Dust and Carbide Scraps

Next, make your way to Mysa Tarill. There, you will find Diamondine Dust and Carbide Scraps inside chests scattered around ruins. You will need a total of 14 Diamondine Dusts and 7 Carbide Scraps to build your Ornithopter.

Now, you need 46 Advanced Servoks, 30 Particle Capacitors, and 8 Industrial Pumps. The Advanced Servoks and Particle Capacitors are easy to get by looting Testing Stations in the Hagga Basin. The harder part is collecting Industrial Pumps, which usually requires raiding Sentinel City or looting shipwrecks.

If some of these rare materials just aren’t dropping for you, you can farm Solari and visit The Crossroads Tradepost to buy what you need. Once you have got everything you need, it’s time to put it all together. Use a welding torch to assemble each part of your ornithopter. When it’s complete fuel it up.
