The Cog in the Wheel is one of the important quests available in the Gothic 1 Remake and revolves around Old Mines. In the course of this quest, you will be helping Ian retrieve a cog without which the smooth operation of the mines would not be possible. However, although it may seem quite easy at first glance, you will be required to go far into the mines. This guide will show you where to start the quest, how to find the missing cog, and how to complete it.
Cog In The Wheel Quest
To start the Cog in the Wheel quest, go to the training area at the Swamp Camp and find Cor Angar. Talk to him, and he will task you with proving yourself in battle against his man, Gor Na Drak. Take him down in the battle, but do not kill him. As soon as you manage to take him down and he gets back up, you have successfully completed this section. Once the battle is over, sheath your sword before talking to Cor Angar.
Travel To The Old Mine
Old Mine is situated on the northwestern side of the map. Travel towards it and go inside the mineshaft. Walk through the tracks of the mineshaft till you come to a wide-open area. Walk across the bridge and turn right. Go further inside the mineshaft by climbing down using wooden walkways and ladders till you find the lower sections of it.
At last, you will come to the place where Ian will be found working. It’s here that during the dialogue sequence, you will take up the quest titled A Cog in the Wheel. To find the missing cog, travel back to the lower areas of the mineshaft. Move further inside by going down through ladders into another deep level of it, where several Minecrawlers are present. Kill the Minecrawlers and find the cog that will be lying to the right side of it. Finally, come out and give Ian the cog to finish off the quest.
