In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Ember Rufflizard is a unique Endemic Life creature found in the Oilwell Basin. As part of Dareel’s Research Report Cont. side quest, you’ll need to locate and capture these lizards to aid in his research. Since they thrive in hot, volcanic areas, tracking them down requires careful preparation. Along the way, you’ll need to manage the extreme heat and use the right tools to successfully capture them. Completing this quest not only progresses Dareel’s research but also brings valuable rewards and unlocks new Endemic Life challenges.

During Chapter 4-2 in Monster Hunter Wilds, you will unlock Dareel’s Research Report side quest in Windward Plains. Speaking with Dareel will send you on a mission to the Oilwell Basin to locate the Ember Rufflizard. These creatures can be found in Zone 15, the same area where you previously fought the Black Flame. Since Ember Rufflizards prefer volcanic environments, you will need to head toward the Basin’s hottest regions to track them down.
Because of the extreme heat in these areas, it’s important to bring Cold Drinks to prevent your health from depleting. Once you reach Zone 15, keep an eye out for the lizards’ distinct light green glow, which makes them easy to spot even in the rugged terrain. Unlike Sandstars, these creatures are not skittish, so you won’t have to worry about scaring them away with sudden movements.
How to Catch Rufflizard
To capture an Ember Rufflizard, all you need to do is have your capture net equipped and use it when you approach one. They move in herds, so you can capture several at the same time. Capturing extra lizards will be helpful because it rewards you with more Guild Points, which you can utilize to acquire rewards and upgrades.
After obtaining the necessary Ember Rufflizards, go back to Dareel at the Plains base camp to finish the quest. This will advance Dareel’s research and get you closer to new discoveries in Monster Hunter Wilds. Your activities with Endemic Life are still not over yet, though.
Once you’ve finished Dareel’s quest, you’ll be able to unlock Samin’s, which leads you to the Iceshard Cliffs to hunt for the Rime Beetle. This is the start of another Endemic Life challenge, a new level of exploration to add to your travels.
There are still several more Endemic Life quests to complete, so it’s a good idea to continue raising your Hunter Rank. The more you explore and document these creatures, the more opportunities you’ll unlock, making you a more skilled and well-equipped hunter in the world of Monster Hunter Wilds.
