Path of Exile 2 challenges players with various quests to test their strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. One such intriguing mission is Ancient Vows, a mysterious quest in Act 2 that requires players to find and use a pair of Relics. Unlike many other quests in the game, which offer clear directions, Ancient Vows leaves players to interpret its cryptic clues and uncover the path forward on their own.
This article will outline the steps required to complete the Ancient Vows quest and maximize the use of the Relics in Path of Exile 2.
How to Begin the Ancient Vows Quest in Path of Exile 2
The Ancient Vows Quest becomes available during The City of Seven Waters questline. It is automatically added to your journal when you acquire either the Sun Clan Relic or the Kabala Clan Relic, but you can only obtain one of them.
After you have one relic in your inventory, the only task to complete the quest is to collect the other relic. If you possess the Kabala Clan Relic, you must seek the Sun Clan Relic, and vice versa.
Once you have them, you’re simply told to “Find a use for the Relics,” which can seem quite vague at first.
Remember, another way to start the Ancient Vows quest is to head to the Valley of the Titans and find the altar that will direct you to the Kabala Clan and Sun Clan Relics.
Note: The location details on the map may vary based on your playstyle, but the names and areas will remain the same. As a result, we cannot provide exact destinations for these locations; you’ll need to use the names to find them yourself.
Location of the Kabala Clan Relic
If the quest begins with the Sun Clan Relic, you must acquire the Kabala Clan Relic.
Defeat enemies in the Keth region to increase your chances of finding the Kabala Clan Relic. Focus on hunting specific snake enemies and take down as many as possible. The Kabala Clan Relic will soon appear on the ground.
If you already possess the Kabala Clan Relic, proceed to the next section to complete the relic.
Location of the Sun Clan Relic
If the quest begins with the Kabala Clan Relic, you must acquire the Sun Clan Relic to complete the quest.
Head to The Bone Pits in Mastadon Badlands and defeat any enemies in the area, as they may drop the Sun Clan Relic. While the drop is governed by an RNG system, it’s not guaranteed to happen immediately. However, killing monsters within this region increases the chances of the Sun Clan Relic appearing.
That’s it! Now that we’ve acquired both relics, it’s time to complete the quest and claim the reward.
How to Use the Sun Clan Relic or Kabala Clan Relic in Path of Exile 2
Once you have both relics, you’re prepared to finish the quest. Head to the Valley of the Titans, located in the southern part of the desert map. Once there, explore the area until you discover and unlock the waypoint. If you’ve already visited this location during the story, you can fast travel directly to the waypoint.
Right next to it, you’ll notice a staircase leading up to an altar marked ‘Medallion.’ Click on the Medallion, then drag each relic from your inventory into the slot that appears on-screen. This will complete the quest and trigger two buffs to appear.
- 30% increased Charm Charges gained
- 15% Mana Recovery from Flasks
This is essentially a permanent buff that can be activated by clicking on it. You can switch to the other buff at any time by clicking the opposite side of the medallion, but only one buff can be active at a time.
Feel free to choose whichever option suits you best. For instance, if your spells are draining too much mana—whether you’re an Occultist or Sorceress—opting for the Mana Recovery option could be a better choice. You can always come back and adjust your decision later. With that, the Ancient Vows quest is finished, and you can finally say goodbye to those pesky Relics.
