Fix Black Ops 7 Crashing or Freezing on PC

One of the massive innovative Co-Op first-person shooter games of 2025, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Beta is live now. Unfortunately, many players have reported that the beta crashes consistently on PC. This issue occurs especially when trying to load into a match or just a few seconds before it starts. In multiple discussions in various communities, players have shared their workarounds, and we have gathered all of them in this guide. Let’s find out how to fix Black Ops 7 crashing or freezing on PC.

How to Fix Black Ops 7 Crashing or Freezing on PC

Game crashing or freezing on PC is one of the common issues in modern online games, including Black Ops 7. These problems occur for a variety of reasons. Go through this guide and try all possible workarounds to fix the crashing or freezing issue in Black Ops 7.

1. Update and Repair Game Files

One of the first and quickest solutions you should try is to simply update the game to the latest version, as older versions can cause several issues and errors. So, simply update the game and relaunch it.

Additionally, repair any missing or corrupted game files by going to Steam Library >> Right-click on the game >> Properties >> Local Files >> Verify integrity of game files. Once the scanning process is completed, relaunch the game.

2. Run the Game in Windowed Mode

This is one of the most suggested solutions by many players. The next effective solution you should try is to run the game in Windowed Mode instead of Fullscreen or Borderless Fullscreen Mode. Many players report that the game runs smoothly when they run it in Windowed Mode.

3. Uninstall Other Games with Anti-Cheat

Some other players report that the crashing issues occur due to clashes between the beta’s anti-cheat system and other anti-cheat programs installed with other popular online games like Valorant (Vanguard) or Fortnite (Easy Anti-Cheat). So, try uninstalling other games that are running with the anti-cheat system and then try relaunching the game.

4. Enable Windows Security Settings

One of the players suggests enabling all Windows security settings to eliminate crashing and freezing issues in BO7. A few anti-cheat systems such as Ricocher relies on trusted computing features like Kernel Isolation (Memory Integrity), Kernel Isolation (Memory Integrity), TPM (Trusted Platform Module), and Secure Boot to check that your system is not messed up. Just in case any of these features are disabled, the anti-cheat may fail to load properly and crash the game when trying to join any match in BO7. Here is how to do it:

  1. First of all, open up Windows Settings by pressing the Win + I keys on your keyboard.
  2. Go to Privacy & Security >> Windows Security >> Device Security
  3. Under Core Isolation, click on the option and turn Memory Integrity ON
  4. Additionally, check that your Security Chip (TPM 2.0) is also enabled
  5. Then, reboot your PC and enter your BIOS settings (You can usually do it by pressing Del, F2, or F12 during boot)
  6. Once you are in the BIOS settings, make sure Secure Boot is enabled
  7. Lastly, save the settings, exit from it, reboot your PC, and relaunch the game.

5. Turn Off HDR

Multiple players report that the crashing and freezing issues occur because the HDR (High Dynamic Range) is active on their PCs. The HDR feature forces the GPU and monitor to work with higher color depth and brightness ranges, which causes freezing and crashing issues. Here is how you can turn it off on PC and in-game.

PC Settings:

  1. Right-click on the Desktop and select Display Settings
  2. Scroll down to the Use HDR toggle
  3. Switch it to Off

In-Game Settings:

  1. Launch your game and go to Graphics or Display Settings
  2. Find the HDR option
  3. Set it to Disabled/Off
  4. Once done, relaunch the game

6. Do Not Use “Low” Preset

Another best suggestion by a few players is to avoid using “Low” present instead try using the recommended graphics preset to stop crashing and freezing issues in BO7. Here is how to do it:

  1. Launch the game and open the Graphics Settings menu
  2. Check your current preset. If it is set to Low, change it
  3. Select the Recommended option
  4. Save and apply changes
  5. At last, relaunch the game and try to join the match.

7. Complete Deletion of CoD Folders

If you are still struggling to fix the issue, then don’t worry. We have several other solutions to try. Next, try to delete all CoD folders completely. In case the corrupted shader cache or settings files are present in the CoD folders, they often crash or freeze the game. To do that:

  1. Close the game and Battle.net/Steam
  2. Go to these directories and delete COD-related folders:
  3. Documents\Call of Duty
  4. C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\Battle.net
  5. C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\Blizzard Entertainment
  6. Also, clear the cache from C:\ProgramData\Battle.net
  7. After deleting, reboot the PC and relaunch the game
  8. This will rebuild shaders and config files from scratch.

8. Reinstall Just the Beta

One of the players suggests that instead of reinstalling the entire game library, only reinstalling the BO7 beta. This simple trick will help you fix the crashing and freezing issues in BO7.

9. Enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot

Black Ops 7 now requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot to run properly. If you have no idea about them, they are security features built into modern motherboards that also ensure compatibility with certain online games, including BO7. Follow the steps below to do that:

  1. Press Windows + R, type tpm.msc, and press Enter to check the TPM status. It should indicate “TPM is ready for use” and version 2.0
  2. Reboot your PC and enter the BIOS settings (You can usually do it by pressing Del, F2, or F12 during boot)
  3. Locate TPM/Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT) and Secure Boot in your BIOS menus. Enable both
  4. Save changes and reboot your PC
  5. Once you are on Windows, make sure that TPM and Secure Boot are active via tpm.msc and System Information. (Note: These steps are mandatory for the game to launch on modern PCs.)

10. Remove Dual Installations

It has been noticed that if you have installed the game on multiple launchers, such as Steam and the Xbox App, it can cause conflicts and prevent the game from launching smoothly on your device. Follow the steps below to remove dual installations.

  1. Check all gaming platforms one by one where the game might be installed, such as Steam, Xbox App, Epic, etc.
  2. Uninstall one of the installations completely
  3. Keep only one active installation on your preferred launcher
  4. Once done, reboot your PC and relaunch the game.

11. Reset Hardware Overclocking

Overclocking CPU, GPU, or RAM can also cause instability and crashing issues, especially in high-demanding online games like Black Ops 7.

  1. First of all, enter the PC’s BIOS settings (You can usually do it by pressing Del, F2, or F12 during boot)
  2. Ensure CPU voltages and RAM timings are set to stock values
  3. Adjust in-game graphics settings to reduce CPU/GPU load
  4. Run hardware monitoring tools like HWMonitor and MSI Afterburner to check stability

12. Reinstall the Game

If none of the above workarounds helped to fix the issue, then your last resort is to uninstall the game completely from your device and then reinstall it. This fresh installation of the game files will also help to fix any corrupted game files.

That’s all for this guide on how to fix Black Ops 7 crashing or freezing on PC.
