The Thunderstone KCD2 Side Quest Guide

In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, the Thunderstone side quest tasks you with retrieving a mystical stone for Kona, a resident of Grund. This dark-colored, finely smoothed stone with a hole in the center is said to have magical properties, bringing good luck and protection from evil. The quest requires you to track down the stone through a series of characters and locations, including Thomlin of Horschan, Peter and Hensel from Raborsch, and Mlada from Suchdol.

Throughout the quest, you’ll face decisions that lead to different outcomes, such as returning the stone to Kona, giving it back to Thomlin, or keeping it for yourself. This guide will walk you through this fascinating side quest and offer some helpful tips along the way.

How to Begin the Thunderstone Side Quest in KCD2

Whether you receive a tip about the quest from a local innkeeper or happen upon it in Grund, you’ll need to speak with Kona to begin. You’ll find her in Grund, typically near her home. Kona will explain that she needs the power of the Thunderstone and will ask you to travel to Horschan to speak with Thomlin.

Getting the Thunderstone in KCD2

When you arrive in Horschan, you’ll find Thomlin around town, and you might have already heard his name from a few innkeepers, as he also organizes a brawling tournament there. However, your focus is on the Thunderstone. Upon speaking with him, you’ll have a few options for getting a glimpse of this mystical object.

You can ask Thomlin to show you the stone and then pass a Scholarship check, which will reveal that the stone is fake. This will prompt Thomlin to admit that the real stone is not in his possession but is actually with Peter in Raborsch. If you fail the check, you can challenge Thomlin to a fight for the stone. You might need to provoke him a bit, but with the right approach, you’ll likely pass one of the checks and get him to agree to fight.

After winning the fight, Thomlin will reveal the stone and point you towards Peter, though in a slightly indirect manner. If you’re unable to pass any of these checks, your only option will be to pickpocket the stone from Thomlin, which will lead you to confront him about the authenticity of the stone.

Finding Peter and Hensel in KCD2

The visit to Raborsch is more of a brief stop, as soon as you start talking to Peter, you learn that he no longer has the Thunderstone. He suggests that Hensel probably still has it, but he was captured by a man named Andrew and taken to the woods northeast of Raborsch.

Peter then provides you with information about the military encampment where Hensel is being kept and asks you to rescue him if possible. While the search area is large, you may come across Andrew’s bands earlier if you’ve explored, as they are situated in camps along the stream.

The soldiers will attack as soon as they see you, so reasoning with them won’t help you free Hensel. For a stealthier approach or an easier battle, it’s recommended to wait until nightfall, allowing you to take out several soldiers while they sleep. Even if you accidentally alert them, those who were asleep will wake up and attack unarmed, making it a relatively simple fight with only 3-4 armed soldiers. Be sure to loot the camp afterward, as many of the soldiers carry valuable items.

Hensel is located at the back of the camp in a wooden hut. Go behind him to untie him. Once freed, speak with Hensel after he returns to Raborsch.

Finding Mlada in KCD2

Upon speaking with Hensel, you’ll learn that he doesn’t have the Thunderstone either and reveals that it was sold to Mlada in Suchdol. Head there and talk to her. Her husband is sick and she will ask you for help in exchange for the Thunderstone. If you offer to help her husband Peter, it will trigger the Primum Nil Nocere quest. Alternatively, you can simply pickpocket the Thunderstone from Mlada if you prefer to skip dealing with Peter, but for the sake of completion, it’s recommended to finish the quest.

Treating Mlada’s Sick Husband in KCD2

After speaking with Mlada, head to where Peter is resting and begin by examining the room. This will give you the opportunity to assess his condition more thoroughly and make a more informed analysis. The goal here is to pass at least three checks, which should be fairly simple at this point in the game. Once you succeed, you’ll determine that Peter is suffering from severe anxiety and have a better understanding of how to treat him.

You’ll need to have Chamomile Decoction with you. If you don’t, head to Suchdol Castle to use the alchemy station there. Alternatively, you can purchase the required ingredients from the traders in the town square. Once you have the decoction, give it to Peter and then attempt to pass all the other checks related to his diet and his concerns about the impending attack on Suchdol. A prayer for good measure might also help.

After that, all you can do is wait. It would be better if you head to the castle, where you can stay for free, and skip ahead in time to speed up the completion of this side quest. You only need to wait 24 hours, so you won’t have to spend too much time in Suchdol.

When you return to Mlada, assuming you’ve given Peter the necessary treatment, he’ll be back to work, and you’ll finally be able to claim the Thunderstone.

What to do With the Thunderstone in KCD2

Now that you’ve acquired the Thunderstone, you have three choices for what to do with it: give it to Kona, return it to Thomlin, or keep it for yourself.

  • If you give the Thunderstone to Kona, you’ll receive a variety of rewards. You’ll get a discount with the Horse Trader in Grund, a recipe for Lethean Water (a potion that allows you to respec your character), and 100 Gloschen if you accept Kona’s money. Additionally, Kona’s husband will become a new skill teacher, offering Journeyman craftsmanship training for 1,500 Gloschen.
  • If you decide to return the Thunderstone to Thomlin, you can choose between a cash reward of 150 Gloschen or the chance to learn wrestling feints, which will enhance your unarmed combat skills.
  • Lastly, if you decide to keep the Thunderstone for yourself, you’ll gain a permanent buff associated with the item. While the exact effects aren’t clearly stated, it appears to boost Vitality and Scholarship, based on the effects Henry experienced when he obtained the stone.

This concludes The Thunderstone side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
