Steal the Kuttenberg Brotherhoods Sword in KCD2 Ars Dimicatoria Side Quest

In the Kingdom Come: Deliverance side quest “Ars Dimicatoria,” you’re tasked with a bit of a sticky situation: stealing the Kuttenberg Brotherhood’s prized sword. This isn’t a simple smash-and-grab job. It requires some social maneuvering, a bit of stealth, and knowing your way around the city. First, you’ll need to track down Menhard van Frankfurt and engage in a (slightly interrupted) duel. This encounter sets the stage for infiltrating the Brotherhood’s guildhall, a heavily guarded building with a nosy housewife patrolling its halls. Getting past her and locating the sword on display is the real challenge. So, if you’re ready to test your skills in combat, persuasion, and thievery, then prepare to embark on the “Ars Dimicatoria” quest.

How to Start the Ars Dimicatoria Side Quest

So, to kick off this quest, you need to find Menhard van Frankfurt. He’s usually hanging around the street corner north of the Iron Eagle Tavern during the day, trying to pick fights. Just go up to him and accept his challenge. You’ll start dueling, but before it gets too serious, some angry locals will break it up because they don’t like all the sword-fighting in the street. You’ll then have a chance to try and calm everyone down with a skill check.

Now, depending on how that scene goes – and whether or not you intervene – Menhard might get in trouble and be banished from town. This will affect where you meet him later for the next part of the quest. If he isn’t banished, you’ll meet him at the inn just west of Kuttenberg. If he is banished, you’ll have to find him at the Emperor Charles Tavern in the city.

How to Steal Kuttenberg Brotherhood’s Sword

Okay, so you must return to the Brotherhood guildhall in Kuttenberg. Just recall, it’s on the southwest side of town, opposite the direction in which you met Menhard. It’s beside the town bathhouse, if you’ve used it.

Now, the catch: you can’t simply walk in off the street. You’ll have to go around the back of the building, into the alleyways, to find the real entrance. There are actually two options. One door is unlocked and ready to go, but be warned, there are more guards patrolling that area. The other door is locked, so you’d have to pick it if you want to use that way in.

Okay, so once you’re inside the guildhall (doesn’t matter which door you use), you need to get to the second floor and the center of the building. Watch out for the housewife patrolling the halls! She’ll tell you to leave if she spots you. If your persuasion skills are good enough, you might be able to sweet-talk your way out of trouble and avoid a fine. Otherwise, try to sneak past her.

Once you’re on the second floor, head into the big hall to the left of the stairs. The guild sword you’re looking for is on display on the right side of that room, hanging up in the middle with the other swords.
