Rime Beetle Location in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Rime Beetle is a unique endemic lifeform in Monster Hunter Wilds, found in the snowy Iceshard Cliffs. These small creatures roll snowballs and are key to completing Samin’s Research Report Continued side mission. This guide will help you locate and capture Rime Beetles efficiently, detailing their spawn areas and best tracking methods to ensure success in your hunt.

What are Rime Beetles and How to Locate Them in Monster Hunter Wilds

Rime Beetles in Monster Hunter Wilds are distinctive creatures found in the Iceshard Cliffs, where they roll through the snow, collecting snowballs. If you come across these beetles in the wild, you can even remove their snowballs and use them as Frostburst Slinger Ammo.

Location

You can find a Rime Beetle in Area 2 of the Iceshard Cliffs, with its icon—a small blue beetle rolling a ball—visible on the map. They also appear in Area 11 and Area 13 on the middle level, as well as Area 7 and Area 8 on the upper level, typically in areas with heavy snowfall. Since Area 2 is at the bottom level, head downward and look for beetles rolling snowballs.

These creatures can be tricky to spot as they often burrow into the snow, but following their tracks will help you locate them. While they also have an icon for the Hook Slinger, avoid using it—doing so will only yield their ammo and won’t count toward quest progress.

Instead, equip the capture net by holding the left bumper on your controller and selecting it from the essential items hotwheel using the right stick. Fortunately, Rime Beetles don’t run away, so simply aim with LT, wait for the targeting box to turn orange, and fire with RT to capture them. Once you have a specimen, return to Samin to complete the quest and collect your rewards.
