How to Locate a Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds
In Monster Hunter Wilds, Samin’s Research Report is a side quest that tasks players with capturing a Dapperwing, an endemic bird found in the Scarlet Forest. To complete this quest, hunters must venture into the Scarlet Forest, locate a Dapperwing, and capture it using the Capture Net. Once captured, returning to Samin at Base Camp will complete the quest.
Dapperwings can be found throughout the Scarlet Forest, the second region of Monster Hunter Wilds. While they appear in all seasons, they are easiest to spot during the Season of Plenty due to their vibrant colours. These birds are also more visible during the daytime, making it the best time to search for them.
If you’re struggling to locate a Dapperwing, there are two key areas to check. The first is the ruins on the western side of Area 12. This spot is home to many birds, including Amstrigians, but with careful observation, you should be able to find Dapperwings resting on upper ledges.
Note: The second prime location is along the shore of the Great Lake in Area 17, the northernmost section of the map. Here, Dapperwings often perch on a ledge overlooking the lake, especially during daylight hours.
How to Capture a Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds
We know that Dapperwings can be found in the Scarlet Forest, but the real question is—where exactly can you find them?
One reliable location is along the stone path that connects Areas 10 and 12. A pair of Dapperwings can be found perched on a branch beneath a bridge at the northern end of the corridor connecting Areas 10 and 12. This spot provides a reliable location for capturing them.
To capture a Dapperwing, equip your Capture Net from the hotbar or radial menu (if you’ve assigned it there). Hold LT or Right-Click to aim, and a rectangular aid will appear around your crosshair. If the rectangle turns orange, you’re within range to capture the bird. If it remains white, move closer before taking your shot.
Once in position, fire the net by pressing RT or F while aiming. If you’re in range, you’ll successfully catch the Dapperwing (or any other creature in your sights) in the net. From here, you can continue exploring the Forest or return to the Plains and speak to Samin to turn in the side quest.
