Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Save the Gamekeeper – Complete Guide

In the vast expanse of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you’re going to run into all kinds of interesting side quests, and “Lackey” is one of the first ones you will probably run into. The quest introduces you to a key character, who gives you further adventures, and puts your skills in investigation, persuasion, and combat to the test. As you rescue a stranded gamekeeper from being pounced on by wolves to infiltrating a bandit camp, where you retrieve your stolen horse, “Lackey” provides a glimpse of the challenges and rewards in store for you in this game. This guide will walk you step by step through completing the quest to ensure you save that gamekeeper and open up the pathway to future storylines.

How to Start the Lackey Quest

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, one of the first side quests you can pick up is called “Lackey.” Completing this quest will introduce you to a new character who can give you more quests later on. To start “Lackey,” you need to find a gamekeeper’s house. It’s located northwest of Zhelejov. Inside the house, you’ll find the gamekeeper’s wife. She’ll tell you that her husband has been missing for hours after leaving their home, and that’s where your investigation begins.

How to Save the Gamekeeper

Once you’ve offered to help the gamekeeper’s wife, your next step is to talk to her son. He’s hanging around the west side of the house, near a shooting range. The son isn’t exactly helpful and clearly doesn’t get along with his dad. You’ll need to convince him to tell you where his father might be. The best way to do this is to choose the dialogue option that emphasizes the danger his father could be in. If you can’t persuade him with words, you might have to bribe him. 20 coins should do the trick. Go to the location marked on the map. There, you’ll find a man stuck in a tree with three wolves circling below. Take care of the wolves.

Where to Carry the Gamekeeper

Okay, so after you’ve finished the initial task, you’ll meet a man who needs a ride. He’ll ask you to take him to a few different spots. The tricky part is navigating to each location. There’s a map with a path marked on it, so stick to that. The game will save your progress at each stop along the way, and then give you directions for the next leg of the journey. You can also mark the mission on your map after each stop for updated directions, but it can still be a bit of a trek.

Once you’ve dropped the gamekeeper off at his camp, your next job is to find the bandits who stole his horse. You can try to take them all out, but that can be pretty tough. The best way to handle this is to sneak in and eliminate them quietly. The map will show you the way to the bandit hideout from the gamekeeper’s camp – just follow the green pointer.

How to Get Rid of Bandits

You can actually take out one bandit before you even reach the main camp. There’s a path that branches off to the left before you get there. Follow that, and you’ll find a lone bandit. Sneak up behind him and knock him unconscious. It’s a good idea to drag his body somewhere out of sight so the other bandits don’t find him. You can also loot his belongings and butcher him if you want.

Next, head towards the bonfire at the resting spot. Hide behind something and wait for one of the bandits to come to the fire. Creep up behind him, knock him out, and stash his body somewhere safe. There’s another guard near the horse at that resting spot. Wait until he’s alone and take him out too. That leaves just two bandits. They’re hanging around the other resting spot. Try to find them separately, one at a time. Be especially careful with the archer – he can be a real pain to deal with.

How to Return the Gamekeeper

Once you’ve dealt with all the bandits, hop on the stolen horse and ride back to the gamekeeper. Make sure you park the horse right next to him, or the game might not let you move on. Talk to him, and he’ll ask you to escort him home.

After you’ve met his family, his son and wife, the mission is complete! But, you can chat with the gamekeeper again the next day to start a whole new questline called “Bird of Prey.” Also, as a bonus for helping him out, you’ll now have a bed to sleep in at his stable.
