Moving faster underwater changes your game feel like a true exploration rather than a slog. It also lets you dodge predators, reach points of interest faster, cover more ground and dive deeper without always panicking for oxygen. This guide breaks down which gear to craft that greatly increases your speed, which is the Wakemaker so you can get farther, safer and faster on every dive.
Crafting Wakemaker

Wakemaker is a must-have gear that greatly increases your underwater maneuverability. You can craft basic fins during the early game but building a wakemaker is going to step up your game experience. The materials that you need to craft a wakemaker are silver, wiring kit, grease, a battery and wakemaker fragments to unlock its blueprint.
Wakemaker Blueprints

To unlock the blueprint of Wakemaker, you need to find 3 wakemaker fragments and scan them using a Scanner to fully unlock its blueprint. These fragments are scattered around multiple crash sites, bases etc.
Silver and battery are easily obtainable whereas grease and wiring kit is going to require you to build a fully functional fabricator.
Note : Alternatively, you’ll find a unit of grease and wiring kit in one of the crash sites or an abandoned base. If you’ve missed them then don’t worry, you can still craft them at a fabricator at your base (not the lifepod).
Crafting Grease

Grease is crafted by using Lucifer Rotsac, which is available for you to craft even at the early game but the lifepod’s fabricator has limitations, so you need to build your own base and build a fabricator using the habitat builder.
Note : If you’re wondering how to get started building a base, then you can check out my guide – How to build a Base & Fully Functional Fabricator.
Crafting Wiring Kit

Similarly with the wiring kit, the blueprint is unlocked early in the game but you need a fully functional fabricator to craft the wiring kit.
With this, you can now craft Wakemaker and increase your diving speed by ~2x. Follow us for our upcoming guides on Subnautica 2. Let’s explore the deep seas together and survive.
