How to Get More Adra in Avowed

In Avowed, one crucial resource influences nearly every aspect of the game: Adra. This glowing green rock lies at the heart of many conflicts in the Living Lands, but it’s also highly valuable to both you and any animancer you encounter. Beyond its significance in the story, Adra’s primary function is upgrading your gear.

If you want to keep your equipment at peak performance, you’ll need to collect plenty of Adra. Read on to discover the importance of Adra and the best ways to gather this essential resource.

The Importance of Adra in Avowed

Adra is the foundation of the Avowed experience, serving as both the most vital crafting material and a key element of the game’s story. Given its significance, it naturally plays a crucial role in upgrading your gear.

The upgrade system in Avowed revolves around gathering materials unique to each region of the Living Lands. You won’t be able to over-level your weapons early on, as the necessary materials simply aren’t available across the map. For instance, in Dawnshore—the game’s first major region—you’ll only find Basic Adra.

Basic Adra allows you to upgrade your gear to the second rarity level, Fine. In the next region, the Emerald Stair, you’ll have access to Adra and Awakened Adra, which enable upgrades to the Exceptional tier. This system ensures a balanced progression, preventing the game from becoming too easy.

There are four tiers of Adra, each tied to a major region in Avowed. As you progress, you’ll find stronger variants, allowing for higher-tier upgrades. The four types of Adra are: Basic Adra, Awakened Adra, Corrupted Adra, and Adra Bán.

How to Get More Adra in Avowed

There are a few consistent ways to obtain Adra, regardless of its type. However, as you advance through the game, the amount you can gather through these methods gradually decreases.

Breaking Down Items/Gears

The most effective way to acquire Adra is by salvaging unique gear that you don’t intend to use. Unique items can be of blue, purple, or gold rarity and are marked with the word “unique” when you hover over them in your inventory. While most unique pieces yield just one Adra when salvaged, this method helps reduce your carrying weight while also providing additional crafting materials.

To dismantle gear in Avowed, hover over the item in your inventory and check the bottom right corner of the screen. You’ll see an option labeled “Stash in Camp/Break Down” with a corresponding button. Hold this button for a few seconds while hovering over the gear, and a confirmation prompt will appear asking if you’re sure you want to break it down. Confirm the action, and you’ll receive the associated materials.

Along with Adra, salvaging gear often grants wood or other resources, depending on the rarity of the item. While you can break down any unique gear, be sure it’s something you won’t regret losing later in the game.

Purchasing Adra

Another way to obtain Adra in Avowed is by purchasing it directly from traders. While not all merchants sell Adra, some general traders occasionally stock one or two pieces. Based on observations, Adra typically costs around 625 gold, though prices may vary depending on the trader and your progress in the story.

This is the least reliable method, as only a few traders carry Adra, and the cost is quite steep—gold that could otherwise be spent on gear, healing supplies, or other upgrade materials. However, if you’re just one Adra short of upgrading your favourite weapon, it’s worth considering as a last resort.

Adra as a Reward

As expected, some quests will reward you with Adra upon completion. Your best bet is to complete every side quest in each region and hope to receive the reward. Additionally, be sure to locate every Strangled Adra—so far, each region has one, and they all grant Adra as a reward.

Looting Adra

The final way to obtain Adra is by looting chests and lockboxes while exploring or completing quests in Avowed. Specifically, chests and lockboxes with a golden glow have a chance to contain Adra, as it is a gold-tier unique item. Containers that glow blue or purple will not have any Adra inside.

To find Adra this way, you’ll need to thoroughly explore each area in Avowed. In Dawnshore, for example, make sure to enter every building, dungeon, and hidden crevice you come across. The world is filled with lootable chests, so with enough exploration, you should be able to collect a few stacks of Adra along with various other useful materials and gear.

That covers all the ways to acquire Adra in Avowed. While it’s not the easiest resource to come by, maintaining a steady supply—especially in the early to mid-game—is essential for keeping your gear at its best.
