How to Get and Upgrade the Staff of Ice BO6 Zombies (Roman Numeral Puzzles)

In the depths of The Tomb in Black Ops 6 Zombies, lies a powerful weapon: the Staff of Ice. This guide will walk you through the intricate process of acquiring this chilling weapon, from finding its component parts to navigating the Roman numeral puzzles and the final upgrade challenge. We’ll cover everything you need to know, including lantern locations, symbol order, and tips to increase your success rate.

How to Get Staff of Ice in BO6 Zombies

To get the Staff of Ice in The Tomb, you have two options:

  1. Craft it: You’ll need to find three special items (a Monocle, a Head Piece, and the Staff itself) scattered throughout the map. Once you have all three, you can combine them to create the Staff of Ice.
  2. Get lucky with the Mystery Box: The Mystery Box randomly gives you a weapon or item. You might get lucky and find the Staff of Ice inside, but it’s all about chance. You could get it quickly, or it might take a while.

Monocle Location in BO6 Zombies

The easiest piece to find for the Ice Staff is the Monocle.

  • Wait until Round 8 of the game.
  • A special enemy called a Shock Mimic will appear.
  • Aim for the glowing spot on its head to defeat it quickly.
  • When you defeat the Shock Mimic, the Monocle will drop.

Head Piece and Staff of Ice Location in BO6 Zombies

Head to the ‘Tombs’ area of the map. You can find it easily on your map. There, look for a mural or a cave painting that shows a bull. Around the area, especially on the left side of the map, you’ll see some purple lanterns. Keep an eye out for them!

Roman Numeral Puzzle

To complete this part of the quest, you need to shoot the symbols in the correct order.

  • Look for symbols like ‘I’, ‘II’, ‘III’, and ‘IV’ – these represent numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4.
  • Shoot the symbols in the order of the numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, and so on).
  • When you do it right, a purple orb will appear.
  • Be careful! The orb will create a lot of enemies in the area.

After you kill enough zombies, the white light will appear again.

  • You can now pick up the Head Piece or the Staff near the painting.
  • Repeat what you did before: shoot the Roman numerals in the correct order.
  • Defeat the zombies that appear.
  • Repeat this process again to get both the Head Piece and the Staff for your Ice Staff.

How to Craft Staff of Ice in BO6 Zombies

To finish, you need to enter the Dark Aether Nexus.

  • Go to the center of the Nexus and interact with the structure.
  • Place all three pieces (the Monocle, Head Piece, and Staff) on the structure.
  • Get ready for another tough fight! You’ll need to defend the Ice Staff for a few minutes.

If you successfully defend it, you’ll finally get the Ice Staff and complete this part of the Zombies Main Quest.

How to Upgrade Staff of Ice in BO6 Zombies

Now that you have the Staff of Ice, it’s time to upgrade it!

  • You need to interact with those purple lanterns you saw earlier. Remember, you shot them to get the Staff of Ice.
  • Here’s the challenge: shoot three different purple lanterns within 10 seconds.
  • If you do it correctly, the lanterns will freeze and turn blue. You’ll also hear some special sounds.
  • Once that happens, head back to the Dark Aether Nexus.

Shooting the Laterns

The Tomb map has lots of lanterns scattered around. Shooting zombies with the flames from these lanterns is a powerful strategy. Since you need to shoot three lanterns within 10 seconds to upgrade the Ice Staff, you’ll want to plan your route.

  • Choose three lanterns that are close together. This will save you time running between them.
  • Consider getting the ‘Stamin-Up’ perk. This will make you run faster, giving you a better chance of hitting all three lanterns within the time limit.

The fastest way to upgrade your Ice Staff is to hit three lanterns in a row:

  1. Lantern near Deadshot Daquiri: It’s above the doorway in that room.
  2. Lantern near Stamin-Up: This one is in the same room as the Stamin-Up machine.
  3. Lantern across from Quick Revive: You’ll find it opposite the Quick Revive machine.

This route is the quickest, but you might need to adjust the lanterns first. Just like you did with the murals, shoot the lanterns until they’re easier to reach.

If you don’t manage to hit all three lanterns within 10 seconds, don’t worry!

  • You can try again.
  • Simply save your game and quit.
  • Then, rejoin the match. This will reset the timer, and you can try hitting the lanterns again.

Rock Symbol Puzzle

After talking to Archibald, he’ll tell you to go to the Dark Aether Nexus.

  • Once inside, look carefully for three glowing rocks floating above you. They can be tricky to find!
  • Use your Ice Staff to shoot the rocks. This will make them lower, revealing a special symbol underneath each one.
  • The location of these rocks will be different every time you play.

After you shoot all three glowing rocks with your Ice Staff, Archibald will give you further instructions. One of the doorways in the Dark Aether Nexus will now be locked. Exit the Nexus and head to the opposite side of the map, specifically to the Dig Site area. You’ll find a door there with symbols on it.

Now, use your Ice Staff to shoot the three symbols you wrote down earlier. Then, go through the door you found in the Dig Site. You’ll be transported to a rock. Interact with the orb that appears and start killing zombies. Stay as close to the orb as possible during this challenge.

If you don’t kill enough zombies, go back outside the Dig Site and find another door with symbols on it. Shoot the same three symbols again, go through the door, and try the zombie-killing challenge again. Eventually, you’ll be led back to the stone structure where you originally got the Ice Staff. There, you can finally upgrade your Ice Staff!
