There are several reliable ways to earn ores in Gothic 1 Remake – loot chests, sell herb rolls, salvage creature drops or even mine ores. This guide shows where to get the herb rolls, how to get a pickaxe and step by step direction for entering Free Mines and extract ores. You’ll learn how to get herb rolls from NPCs and mine unlimited ores in the Free Mines.
Obtaining a Pickaxe
At the very beginning of the game after you’re sent to the colony and get confronted by a group of convicts, you get interrupted by Diego. After exhausting his dialogs, go through the path to the right and follow it until you reach an abandoned mine entrance, you can find a pickaxe that you can collect which can be used later to mine ores – the in-game currency.
Mining Ores
Make your way to the Free Mines by following the path uphill past the tavern and go left through the narrow path from the training grounds to reach the Free Mines. At the mines, go downhill and speak with the first NPC you come across, Swiney. Talk to him about joining the diggers and he will give you the diggers outfit, equip it through the inventory and you can start mining ores.
Look for spots on walls or ground with blue shining ore, equip your pickaxe and you can start mining the ores. Also there’s a little trick to maximize your mining rate, after you’ve mined the ores, save the game and then load the save and the mining spots are reset and you can start mining again.
Obtaining Herb Rolls
During your progression in the New Camp, you’ll come across a swamp member Baal Kagan who provides you with 10 herb rolls that you can sell for 10 ores each but are limited to 10 rolls and earns us around 100 ores. There’s also another swamp member who is going to give you 3 types of herb rolls and you can earn around 400 ores by selling them.
Head inside the tavern and look for the NPC Baal Isidro and speak with him. Ask him if you can sell the herb rolls for him for a cut. At first he will be reluctant to not give you the rolls, buy him a beer and ask him again and this time he will give you the rolls – Green Novice, Northern Dark and Dreamcall. You can sell Green Novice to bandits and mercenaries but you’re going to look for specific NPCs like traders to sell other herb rolls.
