This guide provides a walkthrough for the “Mice” side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, detailing how to brew the Lullaby Potion and paint Olbram’s bull as part of a prank for Innkeeper Prochek. From gathering the necessary ingredients to distracting the barn guard, this guide covers all the steps needed to complete the quest successfully.
How to Start the Mice Quest
To pull off a prank in the town of Zhelejov, talk to Innkeeper Prochek in Tachov. He needs your help painting Olbram’s bull, but you’ll need some supplies first. Your first stop should be Radovan in Tachov. Ask him about anything that can calm animals down. If you’ve already finished the “Blacksmith’s Son” quest for him, he’ll share his knowledge, which is the recipe for a Lullaby Potion. If you already know the recipe, or just don’t feel like chatting with Radovan, you can skip this part.
How To Brew Lullaby Potion
To get the bull calm enough for painting, you’ll need the Lullaby Potion. This potion needs Herb Paris, Poppy, and Thistle (at least three of each, since you’ll need three doses if you’re making the weaker version). You can buy dried Herb Paris from the apothecary in Troskowitz. Poppies and Thistle, however, you’ll have to find yourself. Thistle shouldn’t be too hard to locate; try the herb garden next to the apothecary, or the field south of town.
Poppies are a bit rarer than Thistle, but you can still find them in the same field or further east. Luckily, each Poppy flower usually gives you several, so you shouldn’t need to gather too many. Once you have your ingredients, head to an alchemy bench (there’s one in the apothecary and another in a nearby hut). Here’s how to make the potion:
- Add oil to the cauldron.
- Add one Poppy.
- Lower the cauldron and boil for one hourglass turn.
- Add one Thistle and boil for another hourglass turn.
- Raise the cauldron to stop the boiling.
- Grind one Herb Paris and add it to the cauldron.
- Prepare a phial and pour the potion into it.
If your Alchemy skill isn’t very high, you might only make a weak version of the potion. If that happens, you’ll need to repeat the process two more times to get the three doses you need. A standard Lullaby potion counts as two doses, so that will reduce the number of times you need to repeat the process.
With your potion ready, travel to Zhelejov. Go inside the barn and pour the potion into the stone trough. Now, all you have to do is wait until nightfall, when the bull should hopefully drift off to sleep.
How To Find the Paint
You’ll need some paint for this prank, and you can find it at the tailor’s shop in Troskowitz. Tell him you need paint, and he’ll give you two options: pay 60 Groschen, or try to talk him into giving it to you. If you want to save your money, choose the dialogue options that keep the conversation going. Eventually, if you’re persistent enough, he’ll hand over the paint for free.
How to Paint the Bull
Okay, time to paint that bull! There might be a hired hand guarding the barn. To distract him, throw a rock nearby. This should get him to move away from the door. When he does, quickly sneak into the barn. Interact with the bull to give it a colorful makeover. Once you’re done, return to Prochek in Tachov and tell him the good news. That’s it – the prank is complete! This wraps up the “Mice” side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
Can we Stop the Prank
If you’re not keen on getting involved in the Tachov/Prochek rivalry by painting the bull, you could instead go find Olbram in Zhelejov. Warning him about the prank is a good deed in itself. If you choose this path, Olbram will be grateful and offer you another quest called “Frogs.” This quest lets you interact with the Tachov villagers without actually having to take their side in the prank war.
