Entering the vibrant and verdant world of Monster Hunter Wilds, hunters will be sure to require a host of crafting materials in order to advance their equipment. Of these, the humble Herbivore Shell is a significant component in forging and upgrading basic armor and charms. This walkthrough will shed light on the specific locations and strategies for obtaining Herbivore Shells, prioritizing the non-hostile but essential Ceratonoth creatures of the Windward Plains. Regardless of whether you’re a veteran hunter or new to the franchise, becoming proficient at acquiring these shells will greatly enhance your readiness for the trials that await.
Herbivore Shell Location in Monster Hunter Wilds
If you’re after Herbivore Shells, you can get them by taking down Ceratonoth monsters in the Windward Plains. These are Small Monsters, so they’re pretty easy to deal with compared to the bigger ones. There are both male and female Ceratonoth, the males are easy to spot thanks to the large spike on their backs, but both drop Herbivore Shells when defeated.
To find them, just head to the plains near the Oasis, they tend to gather around the water along with other creatures. You can also use the Filter Items option in the menu if you’re having trouble tracking them down. Once you hit High Rank, Ceratonoth will start dropping Herbivore Carapace instead. You can find Ceratonoths in the Windward Plains, usually hanging out in Areas 8, 12, and 13. They tend to stick together in herds, so keep an eye out in those spots!
Ceratonoth are large, armadillo-like dinosaurs that roam the Windward Plains in herds. The males are easy to spot thanks to the big spikes on their backs. They’re not tough to deal with, they have low health and won’t fight back, usually just running off when they feel threatened.
Trading with Kunafa Windsong Village
Players can visit Kunafa, Windsong Village in the Windward Plains, where they’ll find an NPC named Kilama. She’s willing to trade Herbivore Shells in exchange for Sandpepper. Kilama’s location in the village shifts from time to time, but don’t worry, she’s always marked on the in-game map, so she’s easy to track down.
