How to Reach the Fountain of Confession
To find the Fountain of Confession, head west from the central plaza in Vatican City. You’ll pass a checkpoint where soldiers are inspecting troops. Avoid being seen by the captain and follow the garden path uphill. The Fountain of Confession will be ahead. Near the end of the Vatican quest, Indy must uncover a hidden entrance to a monastery concealed within the Fountain of Confession. First, check the lockbox on the left. Inside, you’ll find the Fountain Gate Key. Use this key to open the door to the left of the fountain.
First, find the clues:
- Take pictures of the inscriptions on the plaques near the fountain. They’ll help you later.
- A light-scale dragon turned to the dark and saw his hoard unveiled.
- A dark beast looked upon the light, and the den of dragons opened.
- Notice the two dragon statues on top of the pillars. They need to face each other.
Second, fix the white dragon:
- Climb up to the dragon statues using the scaffolding.
- Attach the missing claw to the white dragon. You will find the missing claw on a scaffolding.
- Turn the white dragon so it faces the dark dragon.
Third, fix the dark dragon:
- Use your whip to swing across the gap to the dark dragon.
- Turn the dark dragon so it faces the white dragon.
Finally, open the secret entrance:

How to Solve the Fountain of Confession Puzzle
The secret door is locked. To open it, you need to solve two puzzles. The first puzzle is a picture of a baptism. Pull the big lever on the fountain to the left to see the baptism puzzle.
The Baptism Puzzle
- Move the Small Statue: Push the small statue in the left bowl to the right, aligning it with the nearby jutting section.
- Fill the Bucket: Use your whip to pull the lever above the right statue, filling its bucket with water.
- Tip the Water: Push the right statue to the left, causing the water to spill into the left statue’s bowl.
- Rotate the Fountain: The fountain will rotate, revealing three statues before a gate. One statue has already moved.
- Move the Second Statue: Move the second statue to open the gate.
- Rotate the Fountain Again: With Gina’s help, pull the main fountain lever back to the right to reveal the next puzzle.
The Ark Puzzle
Pull the lever to the right to see the second puzzle. This puzzle shows Moses in a boat on the Nile River.
Here’s how to solve it:
- Clear the Path: Turn the inner dial to lower the wooden plank blocking the boat’s path.
- Align the Boat: Turn the outer dial to line up the boat on the left side.
- Move the Boat: Pull the chain on the top right to move the boat to the middle.
- Open the Path: Turn the middle dial to create a path for the boat.
- Cross the River: Pull the chain to the right again to move the boat to the right side.
Once the boat reaches the right side, the entrance will open further, and the second statue will lift its weapon.
The main structure will automatically rotate. Once the gate opens, push the central statue back into the gate. This will reveal a hidden staircase leading underground and completing the Fountain of Confession Puzzle.
