In PEAK, knowing how to cook the right food can really help you survive longer and keep your hunger in check. Some foods work better when cooked, while others are best left raw. This guide will walk you through how to cook food, what you should and shouldn’t cook, and where to find the ingredients you need.
How To Cook Food
Cooking in PEAK is pretty easy! All you need is some food and a fire. Just equip the food in your hand and hold E when you’re near an open flame. Cooking it once will boost how much hunger it fills by about 66%. But be careful if you cook it again, the bonus goes away, and the food gets burnt. Cook it a third time, and it’ll turn to ash and actually become poisonous.
At campfires, you’ll need to light the fire first. Once everyone’s there, hold E to start it up. You can also use a portable stove if you want to cook while on the go. And don’t forget the fire near the crash site works too, so you can use that to cook anytime.
What Food to Cook
You don’t need to cook packaged foods, mushrooms, or most fruits, and you actually shouldn’t. In fact, trying to cook most of these foods will just make them worse.
Coconut Halves
You’ll find coconuts in the Shore and Tropics areas. Just throw a coconut to crack it open into halves. After that, cook the halves before eating.
Eggs
Look for eggs in bird nests around the Caldera. Toss the egg to break it open, then cook it at a campfire.
Honeycomb
In the Tropics, keep an eye out for beehives hanging in trees. Grab one and throw it to the ground, it’ll break and drop honeycomb pieces.
Marshmallows
You can roast marshmallows at any campfire. They’re safe to eat raw, but cooking them makes them much better at filling your hunger.
Yellow Winterberry
You’ll find Yellow Winterberries in the Alpine area, often near the capybara hot spring. Make sure to cook them before eating.
