After everything you’ve been through on Arrakis—surviving the heat, setting up shelter, and finishing the Echoes of the Past quest—Zantara finally reaches out. He wants to meet. But this isn’t a simple meetup.
Before you can find him, you’ll need to map the surrounding area using special tools. This quest, A Touch of Civilization, marks the point where the game introduces you to trading, contracts, and your first real taste of civilization on the planet.
Step 1: Get Your Refinery Built
To find Zantara’s location, you need to craft a Survey Device. But before that, you’ll need better materials than you currently have access to.
So, here’s what to do first:
- Build a Small Ore Refinery
- Requires: 90 Salvaged Metal
- It turns Copper Ore into Copper Ingots
- Example: 4 Copper Ore = 1 Copper Ingot (takes about 5 seconds)
Note: Don’t refine all your Copper Ore! You’ll need 40 pieces of it later, so just make what you need for now.
Step 2: Unlock and Craft Survey Tools
Once you’ve got your Ingots:
- Go to the Research Menu
- Unlock the Surveyor Kit
- Now, use the Fabricator to craft:
- Survey Probe Launcher (2 Copper Ingots + 1 EMF Generator)
- Survey Probes (1 Copper Ore each)
These will let you scan and uncover the foggy parts of your world map.
Step 3: Climb to Higher Ground
You can’t fire the Probes just anywhere. They need altitude.
Find a tall rock formation in the Hagga Basin, and:
- Use your climbing and Shigawire tool to scale up in stages
- Once you’re high enough, aim the Launcher at the sky
- Fire a Probe—it’ll take ~25 seconds to scan
- When it’s done, the Hagga Basin South map section will be revealed
Step 4: Rendezvous with Zantara?
Zantara now sends you to a location called Griffin’s Reach Tradepost, just west of the Wreck of the Alycon.
But here’s the twist: when you arrive, he doesn’t show. He contacts you again to say it’s too risky—there’s a bounty on his head, and he’s laying low.
Instead, he points you toward something useful: the Contract Board.
Step 5: Take On Your First Contract
Head to the board and check out your options. The quest continues with a job called:
- Copper Required – part of a bigger contract chain called Scrap Mettle
Here’s what to do:
- Gather 40 Copper Ore
- Use your updated map to find Copper deposits
- Once you’ve got enough, come back and deliver the items through the board
Rewards are added to your backpack automatically. If it’s full, claim them later through the Journey Tab.
Final Step: Begin Wrecking Crew
After turning in the Copper Ore, you’ll unlock the next contract, Wrecking Crew, which also kicks off your next main story quest: The Wreck of the Alycon.
