In the vast and dangerous Monster Hunter wilds, obtaining certain monster parts is necessary for building strong gear. Tails and fangs are two of the most desired, and each demands special strategies and weapons to procure. This tutorial will explore how to cut monster tails and shatter monster fangs effectively so that you’ll be well-prepared to harvest these precious resources in Monster Hunter Wilds.
How to cut Monster Tails
To cut off a monster’s tail, players need to deal significant damage using a sharp weapon. Once the tail is severed, a notification will pop up on the right side of the screen. After that, players can carve the tail for extra materials and if they’re lucky, they might even score some rare drops. Cutting off the tail doesn’t just give you loot it also weakens the monster, sometimes reducing the range of its attacks.
For a quick and effective tail cut, we recommend using these weapons:
- Great Sword
- Long Sword
- Dual Blades
- Lance
- Sword & Shield
- Gunlance
- Switch Axe
- Charge Blade
- Insect Glaive
Technically, you can cut off a monster’s tail with a Bowgun, but you’ll need to use Slicing Ammo and even then, it’s not as effective as a sharp weapon. Plus, cutting weapons don’t rely on ammo, so you won’t have to worry about running out mid-fight.
If your main or secondary weapon isn’t designed for slicing, it might be worth upgrading a cutting weapon to keep as a backup for severing monster parts. Alternatively, you could always team up with a friend who’s packing a blade and let them handle the tail while you focus on everything else.
When you cut off a monster’s tail, you can walk up to it and carve it usually once or twice, depending on the monster’s size to score some extra materials. Besides the bonus loot, slicing off a tail can also permanently weaken some monsters, making the fight a bit easier. This is especially helpful if the monster has tricky tail attacks that are tough to dodge.
How to cut Monster Fangs
When you’re crafting gear from monster parts, you might notice you’re missing fangs, claws, or horns. These usually come from breaking a monster’s head or hands. To break these parts effectively, you need to deal blunt damage weapons like the hammer and hunting horn are perfect for this. If you normally use sharp weapons in Monster Hunter, it’s a good idea to bring a hammer as a backup weapon.
The more you bash the monster’s head or hands with blunt weapons, the more damage builds up in those areas. Eventually, you’ll break those parts. Sometimes, this just means extra loot at the end of the hunt, but other times, a piece might fly off into the arena. Keep an eye out for glowing parts on the ground grab them before the monster drags the fight somewhere else.
