In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the Forbidden Fruit side quest takes you deep into the forests of Bohemia, where you’ll get involved in some shady dealings with Bonnie and the gravedigger of Troskowitz. Your goal is to track down a saltpeter pit. Along the way, you’ll take on some gruesome tasks, investigate a mysterious poisoning, and make a tough moral choice regarding a guard dog at a local farm. We will walk you through each phase of the Forbidden Fruit quest and help you make the best choices for your journey.
Forbidden Fruit Side Quest
First, head to The Lair and talk to Bonnie. This hideout is located deep in the forest, southeast of the mill. When you meet Bonnie, she will explain how to find a saltpeter pit in Kingdom Come 2. However, the only way to confirm if you’ve found the right spot is by tasting it, which isn’t ideal. Luckily, Bonnie suggests a better approach- speaking with the gravedigger of Troskowitz, who created the pit. You can find him east of Troskowitz, and he’ll point you in the right direction.
Help the Gravedigger
When you arrive at the graveyard, look for the gravedigger – he’s easy to spot as long as it’s daytime. Speak with him and ask directly about the saltpeter pit. There’s no need to lie or exaggerate; he immediately knows what you’re referring to, even though he doesn’t recognize the name Saltpeter.
Once he agrees to help, he’ll ask for a favor in return. You can try offering him fresh meat from your inventory, but while he might appreciate it, he still expects you to assist with his work. To proceed with the quest, you must return at daybreak to continue helping him.
His tasks mainly involve handling old carcasses for the local townspeople while ensuring you don’t look suspicious. One of the jobs requires you to deal with a farmer’s dead pigs, which the gravedigger believes were poisoned. Before collecting the pigs, go to the stream north of the farm to investigate. There, you will find two dead deer in the water, revealing the source of the contamination.
Beyond that, most of the work involves moving heavy sacks from one place to another, which can take some time due to their weight and the distance you need to travel.
Taking Care of the Greengrocer’s Dog
This part of the quest requires stealth. Your task is to feed the greengrocer’s dog poisoned meat without anyone noticing. The dog is usually found near the center of the farm, so when you arrive, head east and put on your sneaking outfit to stay hidden. Find a hole in the fence, sneak through, and move toward the shed.
However, when you get there, the dog will be missing. Keep an ear out for barking – this will eventually lead you outside the farm on the east side, where you will find the dog with a woman – Bonnie. She reveals that she wants to take the dog and bring it to The Lair. At this point, you have two choices:
- Kill the dog to complete the original task.
- Let Bonnie take it, which removes the dog from the area and keeps her happy.
If you let Bonnie have the dog, you must convince the gravedigger that you poisoned it. This requires a persuasion check, so wear nicer clothing to improve your chances.
Once you convince him, the gravedigger will finally lead you to the saltpeter pit. As a reward for helping him, he’ll also give you a pair of gloves. Afterward, return to Kreyzl, who will reward you with a sneaking book and 85 Groschen, completing the quest.
