How To Get A Crossbow in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Ranged combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 can make the game easy, and a crossbow could be very valuable. Crossbows will give you mighty attacks with excellent precision; however, at the beginning of the game, crossbows are scarce, and unless you are already rich in Groschen, this is unlikely. Luckily, there are a few ways to get one: buying it from a Carpenter, winning it in an Archery Contest, or gathering enough money by making smart money-making moves. If you’re interested in acquiring a crossbow right at the beginning of the game, this guide will guide you through finding and paying for it.

How To Get A Crossbow in KCD

You can get a crossbow early in the game, right after the prologue, in the first town, Troskowitz. You will need some Groschen to do this, so make sure you have enough before heading to the Carpenter, located just past the wooden wall south of the town square during the day.

This Carpenter sells two crossbows: the Old Field Crossbow for 66.3 Groschen and the Old Hunting Crossbow for 25.4 Groschen. You’ll also need Crude Bolts, which must be equipped alongside the crossbow to load and fire. Most mid-size to large towns have a Carpenter, making them a reliable place to buy Crossbows, Bows, Bolts, and Arrows for ranged combat.

Another great early-game option is the Archery Range, located south of Trosky Castle. Here, you can participate in an Archery Contest to win Groschen using a bow or a crossbow. Additionally, the range has a merchant who sells crossbows, giving you another opportunity to acquire one if you haven’t already.

How to Get Groschen Early in KCD

Buying a crossbow early in the game can be expensive, especially if you’re trying to make it your starting weapon. If you are short on Groschen, the best way to earn money quickly is by exploring the roads and taking on bandits. Defeating them will let you loot their weapons and armor, which you can then sell to a Blacksmith, Carpenter, or general Trader for a decent profit.

There is also the matter of picking up simple side quests in town. Talking to NPCs and completing their tasks is a good way to earn quick cash without much risk involved. The pay may not be huge, but it adds up over time, and you will be able to afford better gear, such as a crossbow.

You can also forge items at the Blacksmith and sell them if you are looking for a more hands-on approach. This method is not very efficient, though, and is pretty repetitive, making it less worth it unless you like the crafting part of the game. It’s still an option if you are patient and like a steady income.

Early-game money-making can feel slow, but once you get better equipment, you will be able to take on more challenging quests and main storyline missions that offer more significant rewards. Investing in strong gear early on will make battles easier and ultimately lead to higher payouts as you progress through the game.
