If you’re trying to get Salt Shards in Grounded 2 but have not unlocked the Tier 4 Hammer yet, there is an alternative you can use in the Grounded 2 Into the Abyss update. In this method you break Salt deposits using a Tier 3 explosive item instead of using the hammer. In this guide, we will show you where to find the underwater Salt and how to use this method to collect it in Grounded 2 Into the Abyss update.
New Way To Get Salt Shard Without Tier 4 Hammer
There’s actually a new way to get Salt Shards in Grounded 2, and the best part is that you don’t need a Tier 4 Hammer. For this method, we’re going to use a Tier 3 explosive item, Croakwurst, that can only be used underwater.
You can craft the Croakwurst at the Workbench. The Croakwurst crafting recipe requires:
- 2 Raw Tadpole Meat
- 1 O.R.C. Receiver
- 1 Unstable Goo
- 1 Sunken Bone
Salt Shard Location
Head to the area near the Gnarly Bark Tree (coordinates -27° N / -2° E). Just underneath the tree, you’ll find a cave with three boats nearby. Just near the white boat you will find the entrance of the cave. Once you reach the cave, go inside. Make sure you bring a few torches, because it can get pretty dark.
Keep going through the cave until you reach the other side, where you’ll find one of the boats. Inside this area, you should see some Salt that normally requires a Tier 4 Hammer to break.
But instead of using a hammer, put the explosive on your hotpouch and throw it. Before throwing it, you need to get into the water. Then, throw the Croakwurst towards the salt. Now you need to use your spear to attack the explosive.
One important thing to remember is that you need to have water around yourself to destroy the Salt. If there’s no water around it, you won’t be able to trigger it. The Salt Shard in this location will also respawn after some time, so you can come back and repeat the method to farm more Salt Shards.
Note: Salt Shards can’t be used in the current version of the game, since you need to unlock a Tier 4 biome and collect the optical disk here to unlock the recipe in the Oven.
