The Banner of Banners quest in Gothic 1 Remake is the point where the game stops being just about reaching the next objective and becomes about gathering specific materials, pushing into guarded spaces and fighting with great creatures of the Valley. The quest forces the player into learning the game’s rhythm fighting when you must, exploring deeper sections of the valley and planning your tactics to defeat creatures that are stronger than the player. This guide shows exactly how to start the quest, finding the 4 great creatures and extracting the required materials, so that you can complete the quest and progress the main storyline.
Banner of Banners Quest
After meeting Xardas in the Orc Territory during Chapter 4, you need to find Ur-Shak to progress the main story. Head to the marked location shown on the above map image to reach the Old Citadel Ruins, where you’ll find Ur-Shak. Save him from being attacked by razors and speak with him to start the Banner of Banners quest.
Crafting Ulu-Mulu
To craft the Ulu-Mulu, you’re going to need 4 materials that you can only obtain by harvesting 4 great creatures – Swampshark Mother, Great Shadowbeast, Great Troll and Great Fire Lizard.
Great Fire Lizard
Make your way to the lava area near the Xardas Tower in Orc Territory, you’ll find the Great Fire Lizards roaming near the lava area. Defeat the great fire lizard and harvest its Tongue.
Great Troll
Head to the marked location on the map to reach the Troll Canyon which is to the north of the Valley. The Great Troll will be patrolling the canyon area; defeat the troll and harvest its Tusks.
Swampshark Mother
Navigate to the marked location shown on the map which is southeast of the Valley and into the deeper section of the Swamps. You’ll find the Swampshark Mother around the area near Shrat’s house. Defeat the Swampshark Mother and harvest its Teeth.
Great Shadowbeast
Go to the marked location shown on the map near the Stone Circle and look for the cave shown in the above image. You’ll find the Great Shadowbeast inside the cave, defeat the shadowbeast and harvest its Horn.
Find Tarrok
After you’ve gathered the 4 essential ingredients, you need to deliver the materials to Tarrok who is currently imprisoned in the Free Mine.
Head to the marked location beyond the New Camp to reach the Free Mine and enter the mines through the entrance at the bottom of the mine.
After entering the cave you’ll come across a bridge, drop down below the bridge from the left and continue through the left path.
Once you reach this section of the cave, climb up the wall as shown in the above image. After you climb the wall, follow the path and jump across into a small opening in the wall.
After you go through the small opening, keep straight and follow the path into another tunnel shown in the above picture.
At the end of the tunnel, you’ll reach a new section of the cave where you’ll find Tarrok imprisoned in a prison cell. Open the prison cell and speak with him to deliver the materials to craft the Ulu-Mulu. When Tarrok finishes crafting the Ulu-Mulu, you will have to fight him to obtain the Ulu-Mulu. Defeating Tarrok and obtaining Ulu-Mulu marks the end of Banner of Banners quest.
