Thirst is a real threat under Proteus glowing waves and knowing how to reliably craft drinkable water separates casual swimmers from players who last past the first night and water is the most important resource for survival. This guide shows the in-game methods for gathering raw resources and craft water using the fabricator.
Obtaining Water Slugs
Dive underwater and search the seabed for water slugs – common, blue and pink creatures that resemble small fish as shown in the above images. Collect as many as you can but be mindful of your inventory space as you can run out of space very fast.
Crafting Water
After you’ve collected water slugs, you’re going to unlock the blueprint to craft water. Go to the fabricator inside the lifepod.
Open the fabricator menu under the food section and you should be able to craft water now. Crafting one water unit is going to consume 1 water slug, craft a bunch and always carry 1 or 2 with you before exploring the deep seas.
