What Was Given is a story quest in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred that takes the player deep into Lilith’s memories inside The Mind’s Eye. During this quest, you will follow Lilith through a series of visions, examine Fragments of Memory, and learn more about a powerful blade that may be used to defeat Mephisto. This guide will show you how to complete the What Was Given quest in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred.
What Was Given Quest
What Was Given is one of the important story quests from Diablo 4. To start What Was Given, go to Zerae’s Shore within the Skovos zone. What Was Given unlocks automatically after completion of the previous quest, Along the Crimson Trail. After completing Along the Crimson Trail, put the Sightless Eye into its cradle in Zerae’s Shore and receive the ” What Was Given” quest.
To proceed with this quest, interact with the Sightless Eye laying on its cradle after completing the quest Along the Crimson Trail. This will teleport you to the chamber of Lilith in The Mind’s Eye. After meeting with Lilith there, listen to her conversation and tell her how to kill Mephisto when asked. Say, “Ages ago, you gave your children a blade, forged by your own hand…” Upon completing this task, Lilith will ask you to follow her to the south. Cross the holes in the trail and keep following her trail.
Following Lilith
Keep following Lilith until you come across a Fragment of Memory. Talk to it to advance the questline. Next, keep following the road until you get to a point where it forks into two roads. Choose the higher one to come across a little barn. Go inside and talk to the Fragment of Memory there.
Once you’ve talked to the Fragment of Memory, talk with Lilith. She’ll ask about how you feel after drinking her blood. Choose any of the answers because none of them affects the storyline. Talk to her for a while longer and exit the barn, continuing your journey southward.
While travelling, look around and talk to some other memory fragments lying around the area. These Fragments of Memory give you additional background information about Lilith.
Interacting with the Fragment of Memory
Now, further on this path, talk to all the fragments of memory that you will find on the way. Do this until the time when Lilith stops following you. Talk to her and pick an option, asking her what the blade is capable of. This will unlock the quest further and uncover more information about the blade.
After talking to her, examine all the fragments of memory in the area, after which activate the Blade. In this vision, you will see that the blade can defeat Mephisto. When the vision ends, talk to Lilith once again and ask her, “Where will we find the blade?” Once she tells you this, Lilith will vanish, completing this quest.
Keep following the path, jumping over the broken parts. You will find a few Hatefilled Cysts along the way that block your path. Kill them to make way further and continue walking until you arrive at Lilith, who is waiting at the farthest point in the zone.
Talk to Lilith and select the option, “It’s Mephisto, isn’t it? He’s looking for you.” This will help you finish the What Was Given mission. In return, you will get 141,120 XP and 4,260 Gold. The next storyline mission, Mother’s Guidance, will automatically start after this.
