Plague Wood is an important material you will need as you move into the later parts of Windrose. It’s mainly used to unlock and craft stronger items, so collecting it early can save you a lot of time later. While it’s not too hard to find, knowing exactly where to look and how to farm it can save a lot of time. In this guide, we will show you how to get Plague Wood and what you can use it for.
How to Get Plague Wood

The first thing you will have to do is access the Cursed Swamp location. This can be done by progressing through the main storyline, where you will fight against the Foothills boss Israel Hans. After defeating him, the Forgotten Relics questline will unlock, leading you to the Cursed Swamp location. Be careful when spending time in this area because there is a bar at the top of your screen that gradually increases during your stay in this area and can decrease your health.
Once you arrive there, make sure to explore areas highly infested with the plague. These areas will mostly be found around locations like Ancient Debris. However, you will have to defeat Plague Hunters before entering the area. After doing that, look for the trees that have been affected by the plague and have unusual growths. Cut these trees down to collect Plague Wood.
If you do not want to spend time cutting down these trees, you can get this resource by killing Plague Crocodiles, who spawn in the Cursed Swamp. Furthermore, it may sometimes drop from chests found in ruins in the Ashlands.
How to Use Plague Wood

Once you start collecting the Plague Wood, it triggers a new discovery in the game. It results in a new resource available for crafting, the Essence Arborum. Once the resource is unlocked, you can craft Essence Arborum by using Plague Wood, which will play an important role in creating more advanced resources later in the game. You will get one Essence Arborum per crafting.
