Cannons are one of the most important upgrades for your ship in Windrose, once you start getting into naval battles. They let you attack enemy ships, break objects at sea, and gather resources much faster while exploring. However, you won’t get them right away; you’ll need to progress through a few early quests and gather the right materials first. In this guide, we will show you how to unlock, craft, and use cannons in Windrose.
How to Get Cannons
To get cannons in Windrose, you’ll need to progress through the early part of the game. Just keep following the main quests until you reach the Seafarer questline. You’ll unlock this quest right after you finish the “I Need a Bigger Boat” mission, so just complete that first and the next one will become available.

First, you’ll need to build a Shipwright’s Workshop. This becomes available in your building menu as soon as the quest starts, and it’s where you’ll handle all your ship-related crafting. Next, start preparing the materials needed to craft the 12-pounder cannons. For this, you’ll need 10 Copper Ingots and 10 Wood.

Copper Ingots can be crafted from copper ores found in caves. This requires smelting the copper ores with charcoal in the furnace. Charcoal can be made through the use of the Charcoal Kiln by utilising wood logs. Logs can be gathered from cutting down trees and also from breaking apart debris from shipwrecks.
How to Use Cannons

As soon as you have prepared your ship to fight, make sure to arm it with cannons and add some armour, so it can withstand enemy shots. At sea, you’ll see that there is a special bar below that indicates possible shooting directions, which means that you need to use one barrel for the front and two barrels for each side of your ship.
In order to fire a cannon, you need to press the right mouse button. It will allow you to see the trajectory of your ball. Aim at your target, then press the left mouse button while still holding the right click to fire. After firing, the cannons you used will go on cooldown for a short time, so you won’t be able to shoot from that side immediately again.
In order to deal more damage, remain behind enemy ships so that you are able to attack them from all sides. As soon as the enemy ship starts losing its health, a message will appear on your screen. It will then allow you to board the ship and collect the loot after the fight.
