Getting a horse in Ashes of Creation is one of the first important things you should do after starting the game. Having a mount makes travelling much faster and saves you a lot of time, especially when exploring larger areas. This guide will tell you how to complete the early quest in Lion’s Hold and unlock your first horse.
How to Get a Horse

You’ll begin your journey in or near Lion’s Hold. If you just follow the main quest, you’ll make your way there. Once you arrive, there are several quests you can pick up, but the one you need is from a specific NPC in the area.
The quest to get your horse is multi-step, but here’s a simplified version:
- Wood Gathering: First, you’ll be sent to a nearby area where you’ll cut down some trees using an axe provided by the NPC.
- Processing Wood: After gathering the wood, head across a small river to a station where you can process it. Once done, return to the NPC to turn it in. He’ll give you a new item for the next step.
- Mining Tools: Next, go to a station near the river, something that looks like a grinding wheel and craft a pickaxe.
- Mining Stones: Use your pickaxe to gather some stones in the nearby area. Once collected, return to the NPC and turn them in to receive another tool.
- Herb Harvesting: Head around a building where you’ll find white flowers or herbs. Gather them, then make your way back across the river to an Alchemy Station near a white tent. Craft an item and return it to the NPC.
Getting the Horse

After completing all the crafting and gathering steps, the NPC will send you to another person in the area. Talk to this person, and they will give you your horse. The horse will appear in your inventory. To summon it, just right-click on it. You can mount the horse by pressing F, and press F again to dismount.
