Elden Ring Nightreign Shifting Earth Explained

In Elden Ring: Nightreign, Shifting Earth events are special dungeons that show up after you beat two Nightlords. These dungeons are tough but rewarding, they’re filled with strong enemies, powerful bosses, and great loot like Legendary weapons. Each time you go in, the rewards change, but the layout and enemies stay the same, so you can learn them over time. In this guide, we’ll explain how these events work, where they appear, how to unlock their secrets, and what to do if you want to turn them off.

    Shifting Earth in Elden Ring

Shifting Earth is Nightreign’s take on Legacy Dungeons. These special events start popping up in Limveld after you’ve taken down two Nightlords. They show up randomly during Expeditions and are usually linked to the host’s world. Even though the loot you find in these dungeons changes each time, the enemies and bosses always stay in the same spots. So once you learn the layout, it gets a lot easier to run through them again, as long as you have a good gear.

    Where Shifting Earth Dungeons Appear

When a Shifting Earth Event begins, a special dungeon will appear for a short period of time on the Limveld map. It could be on the Mountaintops, Rotted Woods, Crater, or Noklateo, completely random each time. And if you don’t feel like taking it on, you can turn the event off just by resting in the Waiting Room.

Shifting Earth events are a great way to farm Runes and get some powerful, Legendary-tier weapons in Nightreign. But in these dungeons the bosses can hit really hard and even take you out in a single shot if you’re not properly leveled. That’s why it’s best to wait until Day 2 and take them on with at least a level 10 character.

How to Unlock Shifting Earth Events

In Elden Ring: Nightreign, Shifting Earth events are unlocked as you defeat certain Nightlords. Each time you beat one of these key bosses, a new Shifting Earth dungeon becomes available. Once unlocked, the event stays active for a short while, either until you complete it or after you go on a few Expeditions. After that, it stops showing up regularly and can appear at random instead.

Each Shifting Earth dungeon also hides a special secret:

    • In Crater, head all the way down to the lowest level and defeat the Magma Wyrm to unlock it.
    • In Noklateo, make your way to the center of the dungeon and beat the boss.
    • For Rotted Woods, find the Scarlet Flower Bud to complete the secret.
    • And in the Mountaintops, climb to the very top and interact with the frozen crystal.

Finishing these events always gives you a special bonus, increasing your defense, resistances, and attack power. Plus, in some dungeons, you will even get a chance to upgrade your weapon to Legendary status.

How to Turn off the Shifting Earth Event

Shifting Earth events can sometimes mess with matchmaking. There might be times when you don’t want a Shifting Earth event to be active. To do so, go to the bed in the eastern wing. Then interact with it. You will be asked if you want to wait until the Shifting Earth event ends. Once you answer that, the Limveld map will go back to normal.

You can now invite the players to your party and start an Expedition. Your invited players will be able to join you and play through the event, but it will not be unlocked for them until they defeat the same Expedition in their own game. Shifting Earth events definitely raise the stakes, they make the world more dangerous. But if you manage to complete the challenge, the reward is well worth it.
