15 Rare Spell Locations in Tainted Grail

There are a total of 16 rare spells across the game. Some are hidden in caves or chests, some come from quests, and others need a bit of exploring. Each one has its own use, some deal damage, others summon help, and a few even let you control animals or heal. If you want to become a strong magic user, these spells are worth finding.

1. Blood Transfusion

The first spell we are going to find is called Blood Transfusion. You will come across it pretty early, right on the Island Asylum, not far from where you start. Just head out of your cell, and you will meet an NPC. From there, go down and take a left. The path is slightly hidden, but you will spot a small altar, that’s where the spell is.

Now, to reach it, you will come across a blocked cave. There’s a pickaxe nearby; take it and use it to clear the cave. Once that’s done, you will be able to access the altar. And there it is: Blood Transfusion. It may not be the strongest spell, but it’s useful; it causes bleeding and slowly drains your enemy’s health, about 2 HP per second.

2. Skeleton Army, Soul Salvage, and Burning Ember

Now head to the Forgotten Cemetery Crypt. You will need to go there for a quest you get from the Quartermaster.

Inside the cemetery crypt, you will find a zombie servant and his master, a necromancer. Don’t attack the servant, he’s important later. Defeat the necromancer, and you will find some spells on him: Skeleton Army, Soul Salvage, and Burning Ember.

Go back to the servant afterward, he will give you another spell.

  • Skeleton Army summons a skeleton to fight with you.
  • Soul Salvage works great against enemy summons.
  • Abhartach’s Calling lets you blow up a nearby corpse, damaging and bleeding nearby enemies, or you can use it to heal yourself instead.

3. Summon Grindylow

For the next spell, head to the Archspire fast travel point and then to the Druidic Shrine. You will find a bandit camp there; there will be only two bandits, but they are strong. Near the campfire is a locked chest, and inside you will get the Summon Grindylow spell. When you summon it, Grindylow turns out to be a powerful ally. It will help out in fights.

4. Flame Torrent

Now go to a nearby tower. At the very top of the tower, you will find a chest with Flame Torrent, a powerful fire spell. It can either hit nearby enemies in all directions or send out a stream of fire straight ahead.

5. Summon Keeper

Now travel to a distant island in the east, Wreck of Andraste. It’s tied to a quest, but you can get the spell here. Walk around the island, and you will find a mage lying down. He has Summon Keeper, which lets you call in a castle guard-type character to fight alongside you. A great companion in battle.

6. Rumpolt’s Revenge

You get Rumpolt’s Revenge from a quest involving a mysterious man, Rumpolt, the chef who disappeared ages ago. This spell turns your own blood into cheese or transforms your enemies into cheese.

7. The Crippling Core

Next, head to the King’s Road. Follow the wall until you find a bridge. Nearby, you will see a dead traveler. Loot him for The Crippling Core. This spell can stagger enemies for 8 seconds but you do need to charge it first.

8. Hailstone

For this spell, go north to the Sunken Village near the castle. Cross some wooden bridges and make your way around. You will find a chest with a ring and the Hailstone spell, which works like Burning Ember but with frost damage instead.

9. Scorching Pathwa

For Scorching Pathway, head inside, move past the giant statues, and move through the cave and turn right you will find Scorching Pathway inside a chest. This spell sends a wave of flames that burns through everything in its path.

10. The Reaper’s Shroud and Wolf’s Call

Now head into the mines. From your starting point, turn right and look for a giant finger-shaped rock. Behind it is the mine entrance. It’s a maze, so go down carefully. Go straight, take a left, descend, and you will find a huge bridge. Don’t cross it, jump down instead.  You will find a water-filled area with a frost spell. Dive in, grab it, and surface again. Keep going and you will find a crate having the Wolf’s Call.

11. Thunder Lash,

Now go north to the Abandoned Stronghold. Enter through the main gate, and you will find your spell scroll on a door to the right.

12. Winter’s Crone’s Wrath

Next, climb up to the top of the tower. Near a dead priest, you will get Winter’s Crone’s Wrath, a very strong spell.

13. Scorching Blaze

Walk a bit further on the balcony and you will find the Scorching Blaze.

14. Merlin’s Thorn

Go to a huge cliff where a statue is holding up land. Right below it is a cave. Enter it and you will find tough enemies and even a boss inside. Take the left path, and eventually, you will find a chest with Merlin’s Thorn.

15. The Winter Prism

You can find this spell in the northern part of the region, not far from the Ancient Cromlech and near a travel point called the Ancient Cave. It’s a mysterious place with a glowing crystal and the skull of some ancient beast. Look around carefully, and you will come across a chest containing the Winter Prism spell. Once it’s fully charged, the spell unleashes a storm of ice spikes in the area for 12 whole seconds.
