Warding Off Danger Quest Guide

The Wise Old Man is ready to teach you all about Lifewards and how to recharge them. To get started, you need to craft a Wardstone at a Rune Altar and bring it to him. Once you have your Wardstone, speak with the Wise Old Man to begin your lesson. As a reward for your efforts, you’ll receive 2 Wardstones from him.

How to Craft the Wardstone

A Small Wardstone is a handy item that is used to recharge your armour with a small amount of lifeward energy. To craft one, you’ll need to head to a Rune Altar with 5 Rune Essence and 1 Stone. You’ll also need at least level 10 in Runecrafting to make it. Crafting a Small Wardstone will give you one stone weighing 0.7 units, and it provides a simple but effective way to keep your armour charged and ready.

How to Get the Rune Essence

Rune Essence can be gathered by mining it at essence vents found throughout the world. Some vents are easy to spot, with rocks scattered on the ground you just have to pick them up and mine away. Others have floating rocks hovering above them, which require a bit more effort. To bring these down, you’ll need to hit them with a projectile, like an arrow or a spell from your staff. One reliable place to find Rune Essence is at a Rune Essence Geyser these are small holes in the ground surrounded by colorful mist and floating rocks. At the Geyser, you’ll often find Rune Essence already on the ground which are easy to mine with a pickaxe, while the floating ones can be knocked down with a ranged attack or by casting the Rocksplosion spell.

How to Get the Stone

Stone is one of the most essential materials you’ll use throughout your time in Ashenfall. It’s a basic resource that you can find just about anywhere. You can mine it directly or simply pick it up off the ground in many places. Stone plays a big role in crafting when you’re building structures or creating items, you’ll find yourself needing it quite often.
