The Embers Yet Smolder Quest Guide in Diablo 4 Season 9

The Embers Yet Smolder is the main seasonal quest you’ll take on in Diablo 4 Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim. It’s the first big adventure you’ll start as soon as you create a new character for the season. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know, where to go, what to do, and how to complete the quest while picking up your rewards along the way.

How to Start the Embers Yet Smolder Quest

As soon as you start a new character in Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim, the Embers Yet Smolder seasonal quest starts right when you load into the game. You’ll find yourself in Cerrigar, and right away you’ll hear a commotion nearby. Follow the noise, and you’ll come across a woman named Bryona arguing with a man called Flannican. Turns out, a group has been ambushed, and Bryona needs your help. She asks you to look into what happened and lend a hand at Firebreak Manor.

Investigating Firebreak Manor

To move forward in the Embers Yet Smolder quest in Diablo 4, you’ll need to head south of Cerrigar and visit each marked spot on your map. Just keep going until you’ve reached all the markers. After that, make your way to the Eldhaime Keep Great Hall. Follow the path, and once you’re inside, you’ll spot a Strange Item; get it. You’ll need to clear out some demons first, but once you do, you’ll recover the Horadric Wayfinder.

Next, go talk to Bryona again. She’ll give you the device, and this will lead you into a small dungeon called Demon’s Wake, located upstairs. You won’t face much danger at first, but near the end of the dungeon, enemies will start using bigger area attacks, though on normal difficulty, it’s nothing to worry about. At the end of the dungeon, you’ll find another device. Interact with it, and a portal will open, taking you into a Horadric Strongroom.

Here’s where you’ll need to complete the Strongroom and claim the Blood Relic. Don’t stress about trying to reach Rank VI, you likely won’t unless you have a strong movement ability. The best strategy is to lure enemies toward the Pillar Rituals, finish the ritual, and then wipe out the enemies with area attacks. Keep pushing through the Strongroom until you face the boss, Agony.

The boss you’ll face is called Agony. Their main attack sends out fiery blasts that shoot fireballs in all directions, and standing in these flames will also poison you, so be careful where you step! When Agony’s health drops to about 25%, they’ll disappear for a bit. During this time, you’ll need to deal with some extra enemies before the boss shows up again. It’s just a regular demon, nothing too tough. Defeat it, grab your loot, and open the chest at the end.

Meeting with Bryona

Once you’re done, just teleport back to Cerrigar and talk to Bryona again. She’ll explain that the device actually led you to a relic containing Astaroth’s Blood. If you stick around for a moment after leaving the portal, you’ll even hear Astaroth speak to you briefly, which is a nice little extra detail.

Before you wrap things up, don’t forget to check out the nearby Horadric Focus. This is where you’ll claim your seasonal rewards. And with that, you’ve completed The Embers Yet Smolder quest for Diablo 4 Season 9.
