The Battle for Castle Kvatch Guide in Oblivion Remastered – The Elder Scrolls 4

After completing the “Breaking the Siege of Kvatch” quest, “The Battle for Castle Kvatch” becomes available. In “The Battle for Castle Kvatch”, your goal is to reclaim the ruined stronghold from Oblivion’s monstrous forces. In this article, we will walk you through the process of completing The Battle for Castle Kvatch and also how to overcome the bug in the game.

The Battle for Castle Kvatch

To begin The Battle for Castle Kvatch, speak with Savlian. Tell him that you are ready to help reclaim the castle. He will lead you through to the next courtyard where the battle begins.

If you have leveled up before starting this quest you will have a tougher fight. The enemies scale with your level and can defeat Savlian easily. Fortunately, he is needed in the quest and cannot die, so he will quickly recover and rejoin the fight. Work alongside him to clear out all the enemies in the area. Once it’s safe, speak with him again.

Journey into the Undercroft with Berich

Savlian will send you back to the Chapel to meet with Berich Inian, who will guide you into the Undercroft. Here, you will team up with Berich and a strong group of Imperial guards to take on a horde of powerful enemies. If Berich falls during the battle, you will need to loot his body for the guard house key and proceed alone. Now exit the basement through the remaining door, where more daedra await you. If the fight becomes difficult, you can move to the basement for safety. Be aware as some enemies may follow you.

You will also have moments of break. There are bedmats where you can rest and restore your health. A small ledge near the well is also a great spot to kill enemies from a distance. After you have cleared out this section, continue heading north, where more enemies are. Again, use the high ground around you to your advantage whenever possible.

Finding the Secret Castle Passage

Now you will come across a sewer entrance – this is the Castle Kvatch passageway. Follow the tunnel through to a ladder at the far end, which will bring you up into the castle. Once inside, activate the gate lever to let Savlian and his men rush in. Inside the castle, you will find many enemies. After the first wave, push further into the Kvatch Castle Great Hall, which is also heavily guarded.

Once you have cleared the Great Hall, talk to Savlian again. He will ask you to go on alone to find the Count of Kvatch. As you continue into the next section, you will have to face more battles. Also, this time, you are alone, so the fight can be more challenging.

The side rooms in the Great Hall are good for collecting ingredients and finding a bed to rest. Look for the book “Dance in Fire” on a table to your right. It will help you with your Acrobatics skill.

Final Battle in the Count’s Quarters

Now you will reach the Count’s quarters, here you will have the last fight. After the fight, look for the body of Ormellius Goldwin. Search him to update your journal and take his signet ring as proof of his fate. Bring the ring back to Savlian.

As a reward for your bravery, you will receive the Kvatch Cuirass. It is an armor that increases Endurance and Strength by 5 points each. Finally, Tierra will escort the remaining survivors out of the city. You can find them just outside the gates. Now speak with Martin, who will agree to follow you to Weynon Priory.

Bug in The Battle for Castle Kvatch

Many players are stuck during the Battle for Castle Kvatch quest in Oblivion due to a bug. After helping the Kvatch guards reclaim the courtyard, your quest marker directs you to speak with Savlian Matius. But instead of progressing the story, he just keeps shouting, “Charge the Courtyard! Leave none of them standing!” and stands still with the other guards. No matter how many times you try to talk to him, the quest won’t move forward.

To work around this glitch, go into the castle by yourself and clear out any remaining scamps lurking inside. Keep exploring until you find the Count. Once you discover his body, take the signet ring from him. With the ring in your inventory, return to Savlian Matius. Handing him the ring should break the bug and allow the quest to proceed as intended.
