Shadow Of The Horns Quest Walkthrough – Tainted Grail

In Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, your journey isn’t just about survival, it’s about shaping the fate of a crumbling world. The decisions you make are rarely black and white, and more often than not, they’ll challenge your morals, alliances, and long-term plans. Whether you’re aiming to bring peace or plunge the realm into further chaos, Avalon is yours to mold.

The south of Avalon is especially volatile. Once you get past the opening section, after waking up shipwrecked and shaken, you’ll soon find yourself tangled in political tensions, tribal traditions, and a big moral decision: Should you execute Galahad the Pure, or defy orders and support a different cause?

    Tracking Down Captain Breandan

After making it ashore in the Horns of the South, start moving westward until you reach the Keepers’ stronghold. Here, your main objective is to speak with Captain Breandan—but you won’t find him right away. Instead, Fearghas stands in your way, and he won’t spill anything unless you earn his respect. You’ve got three ways to do that:

    • Challenge him to a duel – not really the smartest option this early in the game since he hits like a truck.
    • Pay 500 gold – which is meant for veterans but let’s be real, you probably don’t have that kind of money lying around yet.
    • Lend a hand – the best route is helping him with a local problem: a necromancer has been raising too many undead nearby. Deal with it, and you’ll earn Fearghas’ trust.

Once that’s sorted, Fearghas will let you know that Breandan has already left. He’s gone northeast to the All-Mother Temple, where the Dal Riata tribe is encamped.

    Getting into the Temple

When you arrive, you’ll be met with blocked stairs and a wary tribe. Maybn, the guard at the front, likely won’t let you through with just words—so prepare to throw down unless your persuasion game is strong. If you defeat Maybn, you’ll be allowed to speak to Vrann in her tent. She’ll offer you a chance to make things right with her people and the Keepers through a quest called Act of Kindness. To move forward, you’ll need to craft either:

    • A peaceful potion, or
    • A ceremonial axe as a gift of goodwill.

Deliver this gift back to Fearghas, then return to Vrann to unlock access to the temple.

Inside the temple, you’ll finally reunite with Captain Breandan. He lays a heavy task at your feet: hunt down and kill Galahad the Pure, one of the Round Table’s knights who’s reportedly bringing destruction to the region. This is where things get tricky—you can choose to follow Breandan’s lead, or you can side with the knight’s faction, Kamelot, and reject Breandan’s plan entirely.

Which Path to Take: Galahad or One-Eye?

You’re now stuck between two huge decisions:

    • Kill Galahad – following Breandan’s plan and siding with the southern rebellion.
    • Side with Galahad – going against Breandan and staying loyal to Kamelot.

Regardless of what you choose, your journey will eventually bring you to Excalibur. But the world around you will react differently based on your actions.

Note: If you need advice you can talk to Arthur by the campfire. Just don’t expect him to clear things up—his memory isn’t what it used to be.

    Fighting Galahad the Pure

If you decide to take down Galahad, prepare for a tough fight—he’s fast, powerful, and uses ranged magic. Make sure you’re stocked up on potions and healing items. Try to keep your distance and use cover to avoid his spells. A useful trick is to lure him near his own pyre; it won’t damage him, but it can block his movement and give you some breathing room. Once he’s defeated, a wave of guards will rush in, and escaping the fort becomes a serious challenge—especially if you’re still early in your build.

    Consequences of Killing Galahad

Choosing to execute Galahad leads to major changes in the world. You’ll gain access to Sewal’s Tomb, where key lore is revealed, and help unite the tribes and Keepers in their fight for independence. However, the Traditionalists will turn against you for good. Despite the cost, this path brings long-awaited peace to the south and is the only way to progress through the questline—arguably making it the most impactful choice in terms of story.

Sewal’s Tomb – Finding the Truth

Once Galahad is gone, return to Captain Breandan. He hands you a seal and sends you to the Sunken Village in the east, where a statue in Sewal’s Tomb holds an important secret. Inside, you’ll fight off some corpse-eaters and drop down into a pool near the statue. You’ll spot three undead kneeling in front of it, but they won’t attack. Take a good look at their armor—it’s a clue.

Go around to the back of the statue and use the seal to unlock the deeper section of the tomb. Descend the stairs and speak to the figure sealed in the farthest pod to uncover hidden truths about the world. Bring this revelation back to Breandan. He’ll then ask you to get Fearghas to witness it firsthand. Once that’s done, return to Breandan again to finally learn how to claim the legendary sword Excalibur.
