In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the Belly of the Beast quest challenges players with stealth, strategy, and decision-making. As Naoe, you’ll navigate through Yamashiro, interact with the dismissive Ise Sadaoki, and ultimately be tasked with retrieving important papers from Kyoto. However, unlike the first objective, this mission doesn’t provide an exact waypoint, requiring you to rely on clues and careful exploration.
Belly of the Beast Quest
At the beginning of the Belly of the Beast main quest, your first task is to meet Ise Sadaoki in Yamashiro. Fortunately, the game marks his location with a waypoint, so you won’t need to rely on Scouts to find him.
Head to the waypoint and speak with Sadaoki, who is standing on a dock by the water. Naoe explains why she’s there and how Mitsuhide sent her, but Sadaoki doesn’t seem particularly interested. During the conversation, you’ll get two dialogue choices:
- “I have offended you.”
- “I will show you my skills.”
Feel free to pick whichever suits your playstyle. Regardless of your choice, Sadaoki remains dismissive and orders Naoe to retrieve important papers from Kyoto. This sets up the next objective: Retrieve the Papers.
Retrieving the Papers
Unlike the first objective, the game doesn’t provide an exact waypoint for the papers. Instead, you’ll need to find them using the following clues:
- They are located in Yamashiro, at the center of Kyoto.
- They are west of Nanban Temple.
If you prefer the challenge, you can search for them yourself, but their exact location is also shown in the attached image.
Once you arrive at the fortress where the papers are stored, look for a building on the west side. Use the Observe ability to spot the small blue dot marking their location.
Stealth Approach
The area is guarded by a handful of soldiers, so stealth is your best option. A good strategy is to climb the outer walls from the western side and use Kunai to take down enemies from a distance. You have to eliminate three enemies to remain undetected.
Inside the building, a single soldier is guarding the papers. You can either sneak up and assassinate him or take him out with a Kunai.
Once you have the papers, make a quick escape and return to Ise Sadaoki. After a brief cutscene, the next main quest, “Temple of the Horseman,” will begin.
