The expansive and ever-changing universe of Monster Hunter Wilds is full of special endemic creatures, and the rare Gillopod is no exception. This animal, essential to the completion of Dareel’s Special Research Report, is a special challenge for hunters. With its underground lifestyle and stealthy nature, tracking down and capturing the Gillopod takes a sharp eye and a careful strategy. This tutorial will inform you of all you need to know about finding these animals in Wyveria, how they differ from comparable animals, and how to most effectively catch them so that you may successfully achieve Dareel’s request.
Gillopod Location in MH Wilds
The Gillopod is an endemic lifeform in Monster Hunter Wilds and is needed to complete Dareel’s Special Research Report side mission. After accepting the quest, you’ll need to catch a Gillopod using the Capture Net and then return to Dareel to finish the mission. Gillopods can be found in Wyveria, but you’ll need to progress far enough into the post-game to unlock this area again.
They have a light purple color with small, flat, glowing orange-red eyes making them easy to miss if you don’t know what to look for. These creatures prefer subterranean environments, often clinging to walls and staying out of sight. To find them, head to Wyveria’s Area 7. Go down the slope leading to the incubation area, and at the end of the slope, you should spot both a Pillopod and a Gillopod among the rubble. Catching a Gillopod successfully will complete Dareel’s Special Research Report side mission.
Keep in mind that endemic creatures and fish don’t always spawn every time you visit their locations. They have fixed spots where they can appear, but it’s not guaranteed. If the Gillopod isn’t there, try fast traveling to another map and then returning this will reset the spawns. Repeat the process until you spot the Gillopod in the suggested location.
How to Catch Gillopod in MH Wilds
To catch a Gillopod, use your Capture Net. Look for it on the walls—it’s usually accompanied by a Pillopod. The Gillopod is larger and has a blue color, while the Pillopod is smaller and pink, making them easy to tell apart.
If you’ve unlocked the Area 2: Crumbling Structures Pop-up Camp, fast travel there to reach the Gillopod’s location more quickly. You might also have a better chance of spotting Gillopods during Inclemency or Plenty weather, so keep an eye on the forecast.
Dareel’s Special Research Report
You can find Dareel at the Windward Plains base camp, where he’ll give you the Special Research Report quest. To unlock this quest, you first need to complete two other research quests. Once it’s available, your task will be to find a Gillopod. Keep in mind, these creatures are not only very small, but they also look similar to another species, making them tricky to spot.
