Let’s be honest, some achievements in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon are a little confusing. One moment you’re casually exploring, and the next you’re being asked to find obscure books about someone you’ve never even heard of. Enter the “For Academic Purposes” trophy—one of those vague, head-scratching challenges that doesn’t give you much to go on. But if you’re determined to check it off your list, here’s exactly how to do it.
Step 1: Get to Cuanacht
You won’t find any of Liliana’s books in the starting areas. Your first objective is to make it to Cuanacht, the second main region in the game. That means you’ll need to make decent progress in the storyline before this achievement even becomes doable.
Step 2: Head to Vrell’s Bookstore
Once you’re in Cuanacht, head toward the central city area. Near the Cuanacht Main Square fast travel point, you’ll find a cozy little shop called Vrell’s Bookstore. That’s your key location.
Inside, you’ll meet Vrell, the shopkeeper. Talk to her until you gain access to her inventory.
Step 3: Buy These Five Books
From her store, you can purchase five different books that focus on Liliana’s “adventures” (we’ll let you discover the tone of these books yourself). Here are the titles you need to grab:
- Beautiful Liliana in the Chamber of Ecstasy
- Beautiful Liliana in the Dal Riata Captivity
- Beautiful Liliana and the Lustful Marquise
- Beautiful Liliana and the Borbidden Pleasure
- Beautiful Liliana and the Borbidden Pleasure, Vol. 2
Step 4: Locate the Last Two (Display Only)
There are two additional Liliana books you need, but they aren’t for sale. Instead, they’re part of the store’s display. As soon as you walk in, check the shelf in front of you. The remaining titles are:
- Beautiful Liliana and the Lustful Marquise, Vol. 2
- Beautiful Liliana in the Dungeons of Perversion
You have two options here: either admire them respectfully… or, if you’re feeling bold (or sneaky), swipe them. Just know that stealing them will alert the guards. If you’re going down that route, night-time might be your best bet to avoid drawing too much attention.
Final Step: Read All Seven
Once all seven books are in your possession (whether legally or otherwise), simply open each one in your inventory. You don’t need to actually read the full text—just flipping through them is enough.
After you’ve opened all seven, the For Academic Purposes achievement will unlock. That’s it! Mission accomplished, all in the name of scholarly curiosity, of course.
