Kill Philo Beck with a Rat Bomb – Sniper Elite: Resistance

In Sniper Elite: Resistance’s second mission, players are presented with an optional objective: eliminate Philo Beck. While taking him out earns a 500 XP bonus, there’s a strategic choice to be made. A successful rat bomb assassination rewards players with the Nagant M1895 pistol, but using this explosive method means missing out on the XP bonus. This guide details how to locate a rat bomb, find Philo Beck in the restaurant, and strategically deploy the explosive for a silent and deadly takedown, ultimately unlocking the coveted pistol.

How to Kill Philo Beck with a Rat Bomb

In the second mission of Sniper Elite: Resistance, you have the chance to take out a guy named Philo Beck. If you manage to kill him, you’ll get a bonus of 500 experience points. However, there’s a catch: if you want to snag the M1895 rifle, you can’t use a rat bomb to do the job. You’ll need to find another way to eliminate him.

Rat Bomb Location

To take on this Philo Beck challenge, you’ll first need a rat bomb. They’re scattered around the level, but there’s a really easy one to grab right near where you start the mission at the West Gate. Just after you begin, you’ll see a beat-up building. Head up to the attic – there’s a rat bomb waiting for you there. It’s a quick and convenient way to get what you need.

Philo Beck Location

Once you’ve got your rat bomb, head to the restaurant in the northeast corner of the map. That’s where Philo Beck hangs out. Sneak in through the open door on the west side, which will take you into the kitchen. Go through the door on your right, and you’ll find yourself behind a counter. Look down, and you should see the outline of a rat on the floor. That’s the perfect spot to plant your rat bomb.

Using your Focus ability is a smart move when planting the rat bomb. It lets you keep an eye on Philo and anyone else in the restaurant, making sure he’s in a neutral, unsuspecting state—perfect for a rat bomb kill. After you’ve planted it, just wait for Philo to wander over. He’ll trigger it himself, no need for you to do anything else. Boom! You’ll finish the job, get some experience points, and unlock the Nagant M1895 pistol.

Tips

  • Prioritize the Pistol: If your goal is to unlock the Nagant M1895, the rat bomb is your only option. Don’t worry about the extra XP on this playthrough; you can always come back later for it.
  • Restaurant Recon: Before entering, take a second to observe the layout and where the enemy will patrol. Know this layout prior to infiltrating and getting out of the restaurant.
  • Focus is the key: Use your Focus ability freely, especially inside the restaurant. It will track Philo’s movements and make sure he’s in a neutral state before you plant the bomb.
  • Patience is a Virtue: Don’t rush the planting. Ensure Philo is in the right spot and not being watched. A rat bomb well placed is a kill for sure.
  • Silent but Deadly: The rat bomb approach offers the advantage of clean, silent kills. That may be a very significant plus for someone looking to avoid alerting anyone to his presence.
  • Clean Up (Optional): After taking out Philo, you might want to eliminate any remaining enemies in the restaurant to ensure a safe escape.
