Kill or Save Hermit in The Hermit Quest: Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

The “Hermit” quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 presents Henry with a moral dilemma alongside a practical task. To secure an invitation to Lord Semine’s wedding, Henry needs to acquire a Damascus steel sword for Blacksmith Radovan. Rumor points to a hermit, a former knight, as the owner of such a blade. This quest will lead Henry to investigate who the hermit is, where he will uncover a conspiracy related to the Knights of the Cross and ultimately have to decide to side with the hermit or betray him to the knights. The choice impacts not only the outcome of the quest but also the reputation Henry gets and the ease with which he obtains the sword.

How to Start the Hermit Quest

In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s “The Hermit” quest, Henry’s already earned Blacksmith Radovan’s trust by retrieving his stolen goods. But to get an invite to Lord Semine’s wedding (the “Wedding Crashers” quest), Henry needs to do one more thing. Radovan wants to gift the young lord a fancy sword, but he needs high-quality Damascus steel to forge it. Luckily, there’s a rumor about a hermit nearby who was once a knight and owns a broken Damascus steel sword. Henry’s next task: get that sword from the hermit so Radovan can make the wedding gift, and Henry can snag his invitation to the party.

How to Find the Hermit

To start the “Hermit” quest, first chat with Innkeeper Betty. Make sure you exhaust all dialogue options with her before trying to find the hermit; otherwise, he’ll just shoo you away. You can also talk to Bara to get some local gossip. Follow the quest markers to investigate the situation—this will eventually lead you to Shepherd Stanislav. He’ll tell you to find a black horse, which you can locate at an abandoned camp east of the road in Apollonia (check the map for the exact spot). Once you’ve examined the horse, you’re finally ready to visit the hermit’s camp.

Location of Hermit

The hermit’s camp is west of the well in Apollonia. Find where the stream crosses the road, head west along the stream, and you’ll come to a path. Follow the path, and you’ll find his shack (see the image for the exact location). Talk to the hermit and ask him everything you can. He’ll eventually reveal that he’s actually Konrad, a knight from the Knights of the Cross and that the real hermit, his friend Ambrose, is dead. He’ll then offer to tell you where the sword is hidden, but only if you deliver a message for him first.

Kill or Save the Hermit

After delivering the message, you’ll encounter some Knights of the Cross outside Konrad’s camp. They’ll ask you to help them kill him – it’s generally best to agree for now. Approach Konrad slowly and talk to him. Crucially, don’t move until he’s finished speaking, or he’ll turn hostile right away. At this point, you get to choose: side with Konrad or join the knights.

After talking to the Knights of the Cross, you’ll need to go back to Konrad’s camp. The typical plan is to sneak in, set the straw pile on fire to lure him out, and then either fight him or try to flank him. However, there’s a smarter way to handle this, one that lets you get the information you need and keep Konrad alive (at least for a while). Instead of sneaking, walk normally into Konrad’s area until he notices you. He’ll ask who you are, and after you explain you’re just trying to find the sword, choose the dialogue option “just trying to get answers.” If you do this, he’ll let you approach and talk. Again, walk slowly. You can then ask him directly about Ambrose’s sword. If you don’t get the chance to talk to him this way, your only option is to kill him and loot his hut. Be warned, though: you’ll need decent lockpicking skills and some lockpicks to open the chests inside.

After talking to Konrad, you’ll face a choice: help him or fight him. If you want to save him, side with him, and fight the Knights of the Cross you just agreed to help. It’ll be a 2-on-3 fight, so make sure you’re up for the challenge. Of course, the easiest path is to simply kill Konrad. If you choose to save him defeat the knights, and Konrad will be safe.

Location of Sword

Now that you know where the sword is, follow the quest marker uphill behind Konrad’s camp. Keep going straight until you reach a meadow. The sword is buried on top of a grave to the right as you enter the meadow, under a small tree. Grab it, and you’ll complete the quest.
