Jokes of the God is a hidden side quest that sends you into the Cursed Swamps to activate three Sacrificial Altars and then face the Itzeltek Sentinel. Expect plague crocodiles, tight bait and kill fights and a miniboss finale; rewards Tumbaga and Gold Ingots plus parts of Priest’s Story Journal. This guide lays out altar locations, combat tips for the swamp encounters and a step by step route to finish the quest fast.
Sacrificial Altar Location
The Sacrificial Altars that you need to activate the hidden side quest – Jokes of the Gods is located on one of the islands in Cursed Swamps biome. These can be identified through their symbols on the map as shown in the above image. These altars are guarded by crocodiles and there are too many of them at each altar. Try to lure the crocodiles one by one away from other crocodiles and then kill them, this way you won’t feel overwhelmed by them.
Activating The Three Sacrificial Altars
At each altar, you’ll find an Altar Stone at the center of the altar. You need to interact with the first altar stone to start the hidden side quest. The rewards for this quest are Tumbaga and Gold Ingots along with 200xp. After you’ve activated the first altar, the quest will be updated and you’ll need to head to the new marker that is shown on the map, which will lead to the other 2 sacrificial altars.
Activate the remaining 2 altars just like you’ve done with the first altar, interacting with the Altar Stone.
Upon activating the last altar, you’ll be ambushed by a miniboss crocodile – Itzeltek Sentinel. He’s a level 15 enemy and his moveset is similar to that of a crocodile’s. Defeating him will complete the side quest and you’ll obtain the rewards.
