To be stronger, you will need to develop your magic abilities, which in Eternal Strands are called Strands. These are developed through finding and killing certain enemies, which are assigned to each strand. But beating them is just the first part of the deal; you also need to find their weak point and extract that power manually. You will find that there’s a power level to which you can raise each of the Strands that you unlock throughout your progression. What’s more, you will want to visit the magic researcher named Dahm who weaves them into your mantle in order to improve your powers. This guide will tell you throughout the process to acquire and advance Strands but also walk through the basic means of unlocking important game upgrades.
How to Get Magic Powers (Strands)
To get a Strand, you will need to track down and defeat the enemy tied to it.
- Draining an enemy’s health bar alone isn’t enough, you must locate their weak spot and manually extract the Strand’s power.
- Defeating the Ark of the Stricken Earth for the first time in the Eternal Strands storyline unlocks upgrades for the Ensnaring Blast Strand.
- To gain an additional Ensnaring Blast Strand, you need to break its chest piece and extract the magic from there.
- Simply killing the boss won’t give you extra rewards. Remember, powers have a limited number of upgrades.
- After maxing out a Strand Power, defeating the same boss again won’t yield more copies of that power.
- However, you can still collect other resources dropped by the boss.
Before fast-traveling, check the Epic Encounter listed in the info menu on the right. It shows what type of boss you can encounter while exploring that area.
How to Upgrade Magic Powers (Strands)
After defeating a boss and getting the power you want to upgrade, head back to base and talk to Dahm, who can be found near Sola and Sev’s smithy. Dahm specializes in magic research and can also weave Strand into your mantle. Just speak with him and select the power you’d like to upgrade.
To upgrade a power to level 3, you will first need to upgrade Dahm’s Atelier.
Steps to upgrade Dahm’s Atelier:
- Talk to Casmyr near the Loomgate.
- Upgrade Dahm’s station from Casmyr’s menu.
- If not done already, upgrade Casmyr’s own station first.
- Progress through the main quest to unlock the base workstation at level 3.
This new tier of upgrades becomes available after you spend a day exploring Upper Dnevron.
To upgrade NPC workstations at base, you will need Camp Supplies. To gather these, talk to Casmyr and choose the “Salvage Resources” option. This lets you break down any unused materials into supplies.
Tips
- Simply defeating an enemy won’t grant you the Strand’s power. You must locate their weak spot and manually extract the magic from there.
- After unlocking a Strand power, be sure to check for additional opportunities to upgrade it. For instance, defeating the Ark of the Stricken Earth for the first time unlocks upgrades for the Ensnaring Blast Strand.
- Powers can only be upgraded a certain number of times. Once you’ve maxed out a Strand Power, defeating the same boss again won’t provide more copies of that power. However, you can still harvest other useful resources.
